cweeks Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Hi all, I have just bought a new house with a EuroSec CP8L alarm and Gardiner Technology Novagard 2 sounder box. Before I move in I want to add a bit of extra wiring, extra telephone sockets, network points etc. Anyway at one point I want to stick a telephone wire through one of the holes the alarm installer has made, problem is the hole is only just big enough for his wires. So I want to remove the wires drill a bigger hole and put my phone wire in as well. The wires currently in the hole are for the internal sounder, control keypad, and 2 PIR's. Not being sure how the alarm will like the remote keypad being removed and reattached while powered up I am guessing probably the easiest way will be to completely depower the alarm ? As I have no idea of the engineers code I may need to depower the system anyway to reset the engineers code. That is unless (according to the install manual) the engineers code starts with a 9 in which case a power cycle won't reset the engineers code. So the main question is how to I stop the sounders (mainly the external one) from sounding when the power is removed. Will a 12v battery and a couple of croc clips do the job ? I am guessing my Novagard 2 sounder will sound when: The -ve trigger line is held low ? or does holding it low silence it ? or When the 12VDC power is removed ? or When the tamper switches are opened ? sorry, this info could be used for illegal purposes This would save me buying a set of ladders and crawling up to external sounder. , Cam.
Guest anguscanplay Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 just do it - whats it going to sound for 20mins ? be a good way to meet your new neighbours too, only problem i can see is if the installer set it for eng reset after tamper ( alter can it be done like that on this cheap one ?)
alterEGO Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 I'm affraid we cannot answer most of your questions as it brakes the site rules (i'm sure you can see why). just have ago if you don't want to pay a pro, its the only way you will know. angus: yes it can, and its a good little panel ive fitted 300+ of those little feckers. damn LBHA contracts.
cweeks Posted September 30, 2007 Author Posted September 30, 2007 Interesting edit of my post, surely this section of the forum must get stuck a lot when questions like this arise ? I would of thought a good security system was like cryptography, knowing the method used to implement it doesn't in anyway help you defeat it. Seriously though I do understand the less that is made public about a system the harder it is to exploit weaknesses, want to PM me the answer then ? Prob will let it sound away when I do the job, just like to know how thinks work. Cam.

Cam. The problem is you are 'PUBLIC' so PMing you is almost as bad. have a go as stated, why do you think that bit was edited? like i said have a go. ps: if you crash the system and the eng code started with a 9 you will have no access to re-program the system and it will be more or less a door stop from then on.

Fair enough, nice I to see this bit of my alarms security isn't for breaking, think I have googled the answers anyway, might be on here asking for another system if I brick it. Do you industry guys make a habit of making use of "no resets for a code starting with 9" type features.
arfur mo Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 surly the simplest option is to drill a brand new hole with your brand new drill bought 3 xmas's ago for goodness sakes you know you want to use it even if it was grandma's bright idea why on earth go through all the potential risk, grief and subsequent cost if you damage an existing alarm cable? it just don't figure. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
