Spin for glory and cable should be near by. i think ACT do some sort of cable tracer aswell. EDIT: here http://www.actmeters.com/620K-Cable-Tracer.php

If the builder is still on site "look" for the cables where you know they are not, hack the wall to shreds then next time they will think twice about such a dirty trick. Also helps if you are bigger then them, stature that is as well as character.... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Life is like a box of chocolates, some bugger always gets the nice ones! As for cable should be near by, hmmm. drilled half a dozen holes today before the sparky pointed to the wall behind me. the helpful chippy had moved them to the other side and put a nice little box round them.
arfur mo Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 cable tracers are just wicked for this, especially if the cable is 'lost' somewhere in a ceiling thats been plaster boarded over and finished. the fluke one's cost a few pennies more, but pay for themselves time and again imo, being digital they have excellent noise rejection of things like fluorescent lights. for snagging the cable to get it out, the and old piece of curtain wire with about 6" stretched outside the casing, the if needed it fits on the threaded end of your cable access rods, but if jam can be pulled off saving your rod B) regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

antinode Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 If the plasterer was a tit and boarded all my cables in, I would be having the last laugh with that one. I did my work experience with a bloke who would just smash the corner to pieces with a lump hammer if a cable had been boarded over. Trade Member

Tell the builders to find them, if they want us to find them we will charge them for our time and we will not be making good. When I used to do site work we had a site that was notorious for tacking over cables, I made a wall look like swiss cheese looking for a pa button cable. I used the 'speed' hole maker as well (aka the hammer). Things seemed to improve after that!!! The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct! (Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

Things seemed to improve after that!!! only problem with leaving it to them is that it wont get done. if it doesn't get done, the customer wont accept a claim of "its not my fault, its his". I'm specifically talking about Nandos Chickenland in this case and i don't know anyone who wouldn't mind loosing that type of contract. at the end of the day, the customer shouldn't suffer. i agree with charging for "extras" and no way would i make good. Done the swiss cheese move today and would have removed an entire sheet of boarding but its lined with hardboard.

One day about 2 months back the boarders worked late and boarded the whole house when they were told not to as we hadn't 1st fixed yet. I even went down and showed them the runs as a favour so they could board the rest. To**ers decided to do the lot, i arrived the next day and, well hit the roof a little. Told him he better sort it or it would all be smashed to pieces, he said no chance its staying on. Site forman noticed things were getting heated and went to get the builder[site owner] he came down and flipped even more then me, he gave it all the 'who do you think you are' talk to them and picked a hammer up and launched it straight through the plaster board. followed by 'while your digging that out you can remove all the plaster board in the house' what a guy. I then said i will be the bigger man and just have one of his lads with us for the day to remove whatever boards i need. I love it when you get builders that actually appreciate your trade i love working for them, no cheapo systems either.
