vampsthevampyre Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Yup, use them 2-3 times a year, Patenting a product isnt a problem, doesnt cost that much, defending it if a larger company decides to copy it is. call me and I'll pass on the company we use. Ian Rotheram 01928 581098

Ian Rotheram 01928 581098 i reckon a general synopses on patenting a design would make a great article in here, need being the mother of invention many of us will have had a brain wave idea, but not a clue how best to go forward with it. when employed as a service engineer, i designed a really effective unit for helping to find intermittent joints in alarm cables, basically a fast front end and gave audible signals so you could hear the status or condition of the tested cables, and not need to watch a meter closely, proved just brilliant for finding faults on tamper contacts or shorts when working on your own. i investigated getting a patent and was told to patent a design was fairly expensive just for the UK (quoted about 5k at the time), international patent then i was into monopoly money. what i designed was for fairly specialist use but could encompass other trades, but not a thing you could flog to every household, and the sums would not have added up. i did try one of those firms who ask you to offer your designs to be considered (early dragons den types) but explaining to someone who is not in our trade is hard for them to see the value of it. the ones i made for me and also my colleagues at the time were much sought after a couple of uses, because they were so effective and could still be used today with some re-disign for EOL & DOEL wiring. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

I'm sure it cant be done though. thanks for the advice might call in the future, what do you do regarding the request?i investigated getting a patent and was told to patent a design was fairly expensive just for the UK (quoted about 5k at the time), international patent then i was into monopoly money.regsalanit looked that way to me too mate.Hurt now, I'll go back into me box and tie up the bow!As for you Angus....mate! hee hee sorry mate, i worked in a factory for 7 years and insults come easily.

I designed a similar device in the mid eighties. It was called 'Gremlin Finder' and was sold through the second largest distributor of the day, ATH (now part of Gardiner Security). A special version with the logic inverted made a really wicked (and profitable for the school) shaky hand game for my local school fete
luggsey Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 ACT used to make a wireless test set that had a audible tone that changed with voltage/resistance on the circut being tested. Sounds like a well used idea? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Life is like a box of chocolates, some bugger always gets the nice ones!
