Hi,

Can anyone recommend a reliable external detector that won't false alarm too often?

Thanks

Still looking at picking up intruders before they access the house - when we're in the house not when we're out.

So either linked to Chime or an internal alarm of some kind. Not particularly interested in CCTV, at the moment anyway.

The back and side of the house would need covering. Might be possible to rig up a couple of photo beams - if they're more reliable than PIRs.

have a google for GJD - the sensors are as good as it gets without spending silly money and you get a control unit, remote keypad for making noise, switching off, overridding lights etc

ultimalty they will all pick up animals, postmen (LOL ) etc but you soon get used to which number of beebs coresponds to what

Had a look at GJD after somebody else mentioned them on another thread but then I read some negative comments about them on another site - picking up rain, becoming less sensitive over time, can't be linked to the alarm system etc.

So now not sure.

can`t link owt to an alarm system other than to trigger the dialler ( and I dont like diallers myself ) looked at some last night that I fitted in 1993 ( genuinly must have fitted 300-400 over time ) still going strong, only thing ever done to them was new covers as the old ones went fragile in the sun but they do sell a variant with relays built in so thats one problem dealt with.Whisper this one quitly but the radio ones are really quite good too

Ok. I'll give it a go then. Gives me the option to link them to the lights as well then and a sounder in the bedroom is all I'm after in terms of an "alarm".

i to have installed many GJD systems and they are good if a fairly expensive option as you need at least one head, then the controler. obviously any lights have to be wired back to this.

you can get floods with a plug-in chime module from City Electrical and i expect others, the link is via radio so you don't have any electrical phase issues costa bout the same as a GJD head but is a complete fitting with bulb.

high end Risco have a radio version of their external Watch Out which claims ignores animals and moving tree's but picks up humans, if you want real fancy get a prosys panel when version 7 is released and yu cn tune the detector from software - cool!

don't forget safe practice, your part 'p' and certification when ever messing with mains voltage
