arfur mo Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Thanks, but use of such kit is out of my league. I know my limitations, so I'd have to call in an expert.regardsThanks, but use of such kit is out of my league. I know my limitations, so I'd have to call in an expert if the re-boot after power-off fails again.regards there are times in life when 'biting the biscuit' has the sweetest possible taste regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
Alarm Protection Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 If you have a metre then check the charging voltage accross the battery terminals. Should read above 13v. If not then new panel im afraid. If that is ok then power up and default the panel if you have the info but if not then you may need an engineer. !
kka Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 a little bit to far for me, but try a look on this sites listings by police force area or your local yellow pages Kevin Scott. Guest IPalarms2 Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 not unknown for the wires to the transformer from the inside fuse block to be badly connected, so check for the low voltage side (going to the pcb) about 18-20 volts AC, if nothing isolate the power carefully and check the connections.but power up with batt off is the most common action taken with this panel regs alan When I checked, there was no power at either side of the the mains/transformer cable connecting block inside control panel. Bought new 3amp fuses and lo and behold there was now power at the red mains cable side of the connecting block (I had previously tried 3 different 3amp fuses, but all were seemingly dud). Anyway, NO power was making it across the connecting block to the brown cable that goes into the transformer. Replace the connector block, and now got power to the cable going into the transformer. But still no power at either of the two white cables exiting the transformer. Tried power-off and re-boot but still with a flat battery as new one hasn't arrived (thanks Royal Mail), so should I re-try with new battery, or can I buy a new transformer for the Accenta 8? Many thanks
Alarm Protection Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Are you putting the 3 amp fuse in the block inside the panel??? Is there a spur next to the panel where you should change the 3 amp fuse?? I would seriously get an engineer in now as you have done what you can. Just admit defeat lol! Why not upgrade the system(you may need to now anyway). It would be worth it in the long run. !

Grrrr, spit. Hate to admit defeat, but am thinking along the upgrade lines myself. Anybody recommend someone in the Derby area??

Many thanks you are at the sticky end, looks likely the transformer has an intermittent internal short on the windings, which will pop fuses. the internal panel fuse should be 1 amp, increasing to 3amp it is likely to blow the transfomer windings completely or overheat even causing a fire. you could try replacing the transformer but then it's not the best of panel's imo, and a bit like fitting a new gearbox on ana old car is it worth the effort? not really so i'd invest in a later/new model with all the advances to be gained is your best bet. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

The internal fuses are the prescribed 3 x 1amps & 1 x 1.6 amps. The 3 amp is in a mains line fuse box just outside the control panel, and is one of those white boxes with a a press in fuse. What make would you recommend I look at, and can I retain the existing infra-red sensors or does it all have to be stripped and re-wired? Thanks Fins

Thanks Fins The detectors should be okay as they are protected by one of the fuses on the control panel and as it's the transformer that's went these should be fine, but I'd check them all for signs of wear and tear.
