barooga Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 there is a parallel to this issue in the intruder alarm field, with pab's in vulnerable places. always a quandary, absolute safety verses many false alarms :!: regs alan Same with Access Control and the Green break glasses. Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional
arfur mo Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Same with Access Control and the Green break glasses. can be a pain, get calls door not working glass break pressed. seem more of an issue with the ressetable ones without the glass as harder to see if activated. also when some dim brain thinks it's clever to keep pressing them, so when an issue i fit a simple buzzer inside which makes it harder for them to 'get away' with it. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
esp-protocol Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 With the whole slant being on reducing false alarms it's amazing that some jobworths can't see past the black and white of legislation. If you have recurring false alarms from malicious activations you can opt to remove the offending item from the system but, generally, in the first instance the covers do work - something to do with the difference between spur of the moment and having to think about doing it. Yep totally agree. So where is the line drawn on who has final say as to what the client does with their own system? If the client does an RA and decides on covers and the local brigade walze in and tell him to uncover them, in light of the Reform Act, and the fact the client is ultimately responsible, can he tell the FO to ......."FO" (to coin a phrase !!)??
Adi Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 It's now the FIA (Fire Industry Association)Courses The courses were in the gardiners Fire Catalouge at the back, They didn't run the course but did offer a discounted price I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
esp-protocol Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Well if it was Vic doing the course then he's not doing anyone in the industry any favours. If you feel that strongly you should report it to the FIA. I don't believe just taking that series of courses is enough to make anyone "competent" in system design anyway, although they provide a good basic foundation. And if "engineers" are being given a false sense that they are more competent than they really are then it quite literally could be dangerous.
Adi Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Absolutley agree. Cant remember the chaps name, i could ask mike partlett( think thats right) gardiners fire man. I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
barooga Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Absolutley agree.Cant remember the chaps name, i could ask mike partlett( think thats right) gardiners fire man. Especially if you suggest to Mike that it potentially sullies the AD-GSL name and the value of their advice. Might just find him even more cooperative. Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional
