brado Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Hi, does anyone know if it is necessary to use a micro filter in the phone line to the TS700, when on broadband? The instructions say that not all alarm systems will cause a problem without one. For the moment I have disconnected the line, but it permanently shows the fault on the display. Thanks

Thanks From a broadband perspective every telephony type device should be separated from broadband signals via a filter. Where and how many are needed depends on the topology of your wiring. Ideally filtering should be as close to the master socket as possible. This is for the benefit of BOTH broadband AND telephony devices.

Will have to reconnect until I can get the plug and socket needed to fit in the microfilter. Unfortunately I cannot fit it closer to the main socket than about 25ft. due to the position of the alarm box The broadband connection seems to be the same download speed either way, but my last modem went faulty after about 18 months. I thought maybe the alarm across the line had caused the problem.

Thanks so who said anything about Red Care then Angus? as far as i know you still can't have Red Care on an ADSL enabled line at the same time - but perhaps you will know different with your superior (allegedly to mine) communication knowledge he has disconnected his (that would be adsl then - because of the micro filter) line form the TS 700 panel, even if he (or his alarm company) did manage to get BT to enable Red Care AND ADSL on the same line (but i have my doubts) he would be in line fault at the ARC as well as on the display and have been informed - i'd hope but then what do i know ). and you dared to suggest i had little knowledge of current communications - and you wonder why i'm rolling on the floor laughing my rocks off - REALLY? regs alan ps so have you bought that cafe yet? as at this rate you will have not only me but the whole family clan over for xmas dinner - including my 'beloved mother-in-law' she of the wrinkly nora batty officially endorsed fish net tights . Alan - redcare and broadband have been compatible since the early 1990`s - no filters required. You know well i was replying to Andy`s post that all telecom equipment needs a filter
