This has probably been brought up before.

Has anyone out there, for instance, been called out to keypad lockup on a Veritas?

What is the Ideal system? (Best Panel incorporating reliability, ease of installation and programming, Aesthetics (and setting/unsetting tones AndyP); best detectors and bell)?

well its obvious the guys that use texicom will swear by it , as will the guys who use menvier and galaxy and so on . is it because we are more comprtable with the stuff we know and are used to, I know galaxy is good but hate it cos i'm not used to it , i'm a menvier man , now it is good !!!

I use menvier and have done for about 9 years. Very good Very reliable. Also used some texecom products and they seem to be getting better, Someone told me recently that some Tech staff moved from Menvier to texecom. So soon we should end up with two differnent companies producing similar equipment....!!!

PS used to use alot of scantronic from 1988 and they were also very good, robust and still use them occasionally, sometimes for the odd wireless Job.

I was bought up on Gardtec`s, and still have a major soft spot for them. But also like the Galaxy.

But my overall feeling on this is that an alarm panel can only be as good as the devices fitted to it. It isn`t just the panel that makes the system good.

I swear by all things Texecom.... I used to install Pyronix gear but started to have too many problems with them, also they were getting way too common in our area, it seemed everyone was installing Pyronix, so tried Texecom, and hardly hav any problems now. Had the odd broken PCB, and keypads that dont work on certain keys, but we have a fair few out there and dont have that much trouble. Will eventually get around to trialing more gear when I get the chance.

It would be easier to say what is the most unreliable panels.

I like the Galaxy stuff but the entry exit noise is a bit too comercial, the abacus 8 was always a nice panel for a small domestic, we now use gardtec and although we have had some faulty ones they aint that bad compared to ADE and the likes.

I would always choose a panel with lcd (they're all now affordable) as it is much easier for the engineer and the end user alike.
