Ive not had many dealings with Minster Alarms, but they have loads of alarms in the York area so they must be doing something right.

I have a completely biased opinion on reliability and features for control panels (obviously - I work for a manufacturer). I can only comment that something is hitting the industry now that might make some people look like a rabbit in car headlights:

Qx

In the past we have been the "full of features . . but way to complex and expensive". Now we move onwards and upwards.

Its predecessor (Px - still a current product range) has the lowest product Return Rate (confirmed faults) of any products in the company's entire anthology. Having used the same technology, we expect the same with the new range.

Fit a panel that stays on the wall . . lol !!

There . . done my sales pitch. Bold as brass . . but needed to be done.

I didn't learn much from this. Each to their own - I suppose.

My companys fitting Premier 24's in larger domestics and they are superb, especially if you have a laptop to hand. VR8's in smaller domestics and Galaxy (beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!) in commercial...

What is the Ideal system? (Best Panel incorporating reliability, ease of installation and programming, Aesthetics (and setting/unsetting tones AndyP); best detectors and bell

It is gonna be a case of each to his own:

Best Panel incorporating reliability, ease of installation and programming: Gardtec 800 Series, with the contour keypad. Very Engineer & User friendly.

Bell: I`m not saying its the best, but the Nova 4 is my Favourite Bellbox.

Detectors: Cosmos PQ & Gardscan MX series, Again not the best detectors but for a house installation they have proven to be very reliable.

I'm not agreeing with Service Engineer to earn good faith as I'm about as independent as they come but you can't argue with the Gardtech 800 panel for ease of use as he mentions for both user and engineer alike. Using an LCD RKP and they can be programmed with ease. If you're alarm competent, you don't even need a manual. I have one here solely for programming up Prodigi's.

Again, Gardiner Tech in my opinion make THE best external sounder units available. I've fitted hundreds of budget 1E's, 2's and 4Merits. In fact, I love the Novagard sabs so much I have a Nova4X here at home.

PIR wise, Crows SRP200 are about as reliable as they come.

All equipment is reliable otherwise it wouldn't be available. You just have to choose the correct equipment for the installation. Make sure simple alarm installing rules are adhered to. (do people still fill the cable holes where they emerge from the cieling and where they enter the passive?). Follow the installing instructions to the 'T' and you should have a fighting chance of a reliable install.
