energysolutions Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Hi, I have installed countless Veritas Excel alarms and until now have only needed to set/unset them via remote keypad. I have been asked by a customer if there are any other options available, eg Fingerprint reader control, for set/unset purposes? Asides from the standard keypad I have only came across a system which is set/unset by touching a small "Tag" against a specific place on the keypad. I have looked on Texecoms website but could not find anything. Is there another brand which could offer this product or is this sort of technology too advanced to be available yet? Thanks in advance.

Too risky more like. Not all panels will take an external 3rd party reader. However, Texecoms will. I would though strongly advise against going down this route. Biometrics can be a real pain in the hole, and costly too.

arfur mo Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 i've have seen kit used for access control for enrolling standard tokens, index finger 'enroll' middle finger "delete" and so on. i have a reader on my lenovo lappy which works very reliably, i just don't know if i'm keen to trust it on mission critical items though, as what happens if your client cuts his/her finger = can't set/unset system = liability issues, so i'd think it through, imo like cubit says much better to go with trusted prox token reader's imo unless you need very high security, then use a keypad that takes prox and code, if that saucy i'd pass it over to a big big company who have all the reserves needed. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
magpye Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 as what happens if your client cuts his/her finger = can't set/unset system = liability issues, .... not to mention kidnapping, finger cut off and bad guys are in !!!!! Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.
Cubit Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 .... not to mention kidnapping, finger cut off and bad guys are in !!!!! Ah, the good old scaremongering tactic. Best we don't go down the iris recognition route eh?
magpye Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Ah, the good old scaremongering tactic.Best we don't go down the iris recognition route eh? But, I've seen it on TV, so it must be true !! Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.
arfur mo Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 But, I've seen it on TV, so it must be true !! never thought of that me being a clever dick - i don't use my finger regs alan (i use my nose ) If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
john@total Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Could do, but i wouldn't.Reliability of unit, read errors, administration etc And specifically the Durability of the sensor. Also, where would the location of the biometric reader be??? the location would be out side the main e/e door as a exit button would be. the durability of the sensor is another thing but as the unit is designed for external use and for 900+ users this should'nt be an issue. you could even put a electronic release on door and have it release the door on entry when coming back inside as it has 3 outputs. right thumb to set, left thumb to open door. coooooool or what.
