Cubit Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 the location would be out side the main e/e door as a exit button would be.the durability of the sensor is another thing but as the unit is designed for external use and for 900+ users this should'nt be an issue. you could even put a electronic release on door and have it release the door on entry when coming back inside as it has 3 outputs. right thumb to set, left thumb to open door. coooooool or what. Can't say i'd use one. You happen to have a vested interest in the product??

brizee Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Ill being staying well clear of any bio kit for a good while, even the manufacturers cant get ones ive fitted to work properly. They all have the same look on their faces too.........."should we tell him none have ever worked properly?"

Externally rated??? On paper maybe. What happens when it's pishing down and cold enogh to freeze a witches watsits?? It may appear clever to use different fingers for arm, entry etc. But how would this unit prevent entry when alarm is set?? Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional

It may appear clever to use different fingers for arm, entry etc. But how would this unit prevent entry when alarm is set?? to stop it unlocking a door while alarm set is a simple matter of using the set signal to defeat the door relase with perhaps another relay, but my concern especially external use is the seasonal variations in temperature the user/s will be having from hot sweaty fingers to frozen cold and shivering, will they be able to present their fingers in a uniform fashion every time? (yes i know - keep it clean guys ) chuck in the kebab/greasy food eater, the sticky cake eater and the locall hoody with a can of spray paint i have my reservations. the idea is a nice one but having never used it other than on the lappy, which 'fails' to read about 1 in 20 times, so i'd be very wary of staking my rep on it. in another business sense you are doing yourself out of revenue, tags get lost/damaged or stolen and have to be replaced over the time, so are a source of revenue. if the kit should be unfortunate and fail, what will be your 'fall back' strategy for your client? with tokens you can replace the reader/controller and issue new ones from stock, with fingers they have to be present, with all the inconvenience and confusion that can cause. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

Then you have all the potential problems mentioned - not to mention what happens to your fingerprint when temperature drops (ok, global warming may have removed that concern lol). Those pushing biometrics are not usually the ones involved in the daily problems. Don't get me wrong, Bio's have there place and uses, but this isn't one of them Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional

Don't get me wrong, Bio's have there place and uses, but this isn't one of them agreed, imo seems to be heading for costly flashing lights and overly wizzy bits, with anything the long slog of reliability has to be the top consideration, i'd be a lot less concerned if it was say an internal security room, but if this kit fails in the rain (and they always do like car alarms) there could be some very disgruntled and wet people to deal with. still, it's his choice and if he go's ahead i wish all the best and hope he posts back in a few months on how he got on. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
