Hi, Help needed for an Optima RF i installed 7 years ago... the problem is that the panel does not recognise the PIR's. whenever i try to reinstall the PIR the RF light flickers on the panel and it gives a warning beep. I have defaulted and tried leaving it in learn mode for 24hrs but it will not see them. I have tried ADE (honeywell) but it was like pulling teeth..

Has anyone got any idea?

Hi

The panel is probably ignoring the zone, this usually happens when a battery on a sensor has gone or the panel has not received a valid signal from a sensor for more than a certain ammount of time.

I will PM my number give me a call tommorow.

I too have just returned from a system which has the same problem.

Apparently, the householder can arm the system, and when they return the system doesn't always (in fact rarely) acknowledges them when they return. Therefore they are often in the house with the alarm system armed!

After a few hours, sometimes the alarm will then trigger the entry timer, and they have to rush through to enter the code.

They also have a couple of remote key fobs which occasionally work when arming and disarming the system.

So...I got the call.

It's probably 5 years since I last worked on one of these systems, and fortunately I still have the full engineers instructions in my vast collection (built up over 20+ years!)

First off, I checked the pir batteries. The lowest voltage was 8.5v and they were all Duracell Ultra. I replaced any which were less than 9v.

I couldn't get any response from the panel when I armed the system and took a walk around the house. I even deliberately removed a cover with the alarm set, with a view to triggering the tamper.

Still nowt!

So I defaulted the panel, and "deleted" the pir's from the various zones with a view to "reinstalling" the pir's.

Still nowt.

So, is the panel faulty? It appears to have intermittent reception from the pir's and keyfobs.

I would be grateful for any comments!

I could always replace the system with a Friedland Response system! (This is a joke!!!)

ade brought the tech in from A1,

I didn't know that! But it explains a lot!

I told the householder I would ask the question on here if anyone had a suggestion, but they should be prepared for an upgrade - and I'm hoping to convince them to go for a proper wired system if nobody comes up with the magical "You need to do this to get it to work..."

Never a reliable panel, Optima without wires needs a lot of faith.

Optima with wires needs a lot of faith aswell
