goodlife78
Hi, We moved house a while back, and there was a Scantronics 9800 alarm system fitted. The previous owners said it hadn't worked for about 10 years. It was showing a fault code and was squealing fairly quietly. I pulled the fuse, it went quiet and I didn't think any more about it. Now, after a break in nearby, I took a longer look at it. The installation manual was there, I followed the reset procedure, programmed it up and it seems to work OK, except the batteries (control panel and outside bell) need replacing (it shows bF and the battery is clearly past it). Only other thing is the previous occupants silenced the keypad sounder by destroying it with a screwdriver, shoved in through the front of the keypad. Now it squeals fairly quietly even with volume turned right up, not really loud enough to use it. Anyone know a suitable part to replace it? It's some kind of piezo sounder, about 22mm in diameter. This looks vaguely similar, but not quite: http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/productde...jsp?sku=1192512 , rob.

goodlife78
thanks. i wondered about that, but wasn't sure if it would just sound for alarm. Would it give more or less the same sounds as the keypad sounder? Yes, i'm always very cautious about working with electricity. , rob. hi rob,a cheaper option is fit an internal speaker, that will give you exit entry tones and so on. please be careful when working on you panel as lethal voltages are available to the unwary, so be sure to disconnect the mains before opening the lids to be and work safe. regs alan
Guest anguscanplay
nah - won`t give you key beep or entry exit tone, you`ll need a new buzzer or a replacment keypad

( has it not got a 'pot' on the main pcb for those tones volume? he is getting some squeaks from the rkp spkr so key beeps not that important to get from the internal speaker. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! magpye
no it doesnt give any setting tones from the L/S - chime, false set and alarm only I`m afraid Direct from the manual > Internal sounder loudspeaker output with electronically generated Chime, Alarm and Fire and Entry/Exit tones. (The volume of the Entry/Exit tones can be adjusted). Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care. magpye
Big WHOOPS, I was reading the 9800+ Installation and Programming Guide not the 9800. Still, I suppose we can't all be right all the time Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.
