Turning Off My Alarm?

I installed a texecom premier 88 on my house but i routed some wires through a wall, anyway i now want to route them more neatly but i can't find anything in the manual about turning the alarm off.

Do i

Log in as engineer, turn off the mains and disconnect the battery? i need to disconnect 2 sensors a keypad and the bellbox to lengthen the wires.

Thanks for any help!

You could simply leave the panel in engineer mode whilst you recable the bits you want to re-route, and then re-connect them when you have finished. Bear in mind that if you fitted your bell box correctly, it should start sounding when you disconnect it from the control panel. For security reasons, we can't tell you how to disable this but it shouldn't be too difficult to find a way.

Thats kinda 2 contradicting answers isn't it, one said i can't the alarm will go off and the other says i'm right

Also

I thought i couldn't cut wires etc while it was turned on, the manual says thats naughty!

Surely, if you installed this system, it should be very easy for you to work out what has to be done and in what order, or am I missing something?

Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.

Says the self proclaimed "Knight of the public forum", take a leaf  he's only double checking before starting the work.

not really - you need to power it down as you described (especially as you`re wanting to work on the keypad line ) and the alarm WILL(should) sound at the outside box.

run the new cables first then it`s just a case of swopping them over, get it done quick enough and it`ll not annoy the neighbours

Is it a texecom bell? If so activate engineers hold off mode.

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

Thats what i wanted to know, do i have to do something special to re-activate the holdoff mode or will it activate itself by doing the work in sequence i first asked? If so what page of the install manual is it on as i can't find it sorry?

Failing that i guess i could route the wires and then swap them quickly, is it just the keypad lines that i shouldn't diconnect while its turned on? Am i ok to cut the sensor wires (making sure the 12v + 0V dont touch obviously?

Thanks for all the help too!

One finaly question, from a professional point of view how would you do the following....

Get 4 X 6 core cable across some stairs (carpeted) and up 2 steps? It is normal to hide it under the carpet or have i been an amateur?

And how would you route the same 4 wires through a wall in the corner of 2 rooms. I've drilled a big hole with junction boxes on each side of the wall so you can't see wires going through a hole, just neat little white boxes that can be disconnected should i ever need to move anything.

I couldn't feed them through at floor level as their is skirting board in the way and i can't get my drill in the very corner!

Any photos of ideas would be great :)

The Texe manual is pretty insistent that you switch all power (battery & mains) off before you do any wiring. Threats of voiding warranty etc. No doubt a pro could get away with leaving it on but I'd suggest us amateurs follow the manual & switch it off first.

Just switch off the mains & then pull the battery connectors off. Lost count of the number of switch offs & ons I did installing it & testing it - it only takes a couple of seconds so why risk it.
