richo Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Hi all, first post here so I hope I've put this in the correct forum. I have inherited a Scantronic 9452 system with 4 wired PIRs, a door sensor and an external bell box from the previous homeowner. The system is at least 5 years old and has never been used/serviced by the previous owners. The control panel is in a bit of an inconvenient location away from the front door. Ideally I'd like a system with key fob control. What I would like to know is: 1) Is the 9452 control panel still reliable or should I replace it? 2) If I replace it can I just have the panel replaced by a newer panel and keep the existing PIRs and wiring or will it require all the old kit to be ripped out? Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks in advance for any help! it is an older system, you could gain alot by upgrading to a system that offers you more. also a keypad nr the entry door would be better[is panel under the stairs?] I would recommend the Gardtec CPX which gives the option of the keypad, a built in dialer [which would ring upto 4 numbers of your choice in an activation] and also offers wireless sensors for future upgrades if needed. You can also use fobs with this system.

The panel is in the hall but about 12 feet from the door and I'd prefer a keypad nearer the door but if it will involve hard wiring it I can live without one as I'd rather not rip out 12 feet of plaster to hide the wires.

richo Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 The house is 1900's era. I suppose 12 feet of plaster is a bit OTT but the control panel is some way inside the house and a wired keypad by the door would mean chasing out a path from the door, round another door frame then some curved corners so a bit of a pain!
