hi and welcome loulou,

you can replace that panel with many other models or makes depends what you want. although that panel is not my favourite (to the point of hatred) but is loved by many on here.

has it got an extention keypad or is the panel in the say the hall and on show with keypad part of the lid??

things to consider -:

the wiring will 'end' where the main control panel is so it might not be so easy to relocate the main box of the new panel and just leave the keypad, without some redecorating.

are you going to do the work yourself or get in an experienced engineer in? which might be your best course as if he is half decent he will come up with the best solution all round.

put simply (a concept lost on uncle arfur) NO - your panels about the size of a normal domestic control unit anyway, best you could aim for is a "blank" end station (either bigger or metal) and a remote keypad,

does the panel back onto the garage wall?

well it contains all the wires & a lead acid battery, a proper alarm alarm with a proper battery (17Ah) will be much bigger than your cheap plastic box

even the tat of choice for some "powermax" will be a bigger size than your garden shed type panel

Cheap plastic box?...in their day (which i might add was way...way before 17 ah batteries where even designed) the 9448 or 9448+ as it is known now was one of the best domestic panel, the design is very old and it pre dates the EN regs

good little panel though

cheapened off 9450, hit the market 1994 ish with 1/2 the buttons not working, (take 2 to every job)

way before 17 ah batteries where even designed)

NP batteries bigger than 6Ah have been about donkeys yrs matey, just not used in alarms much

9448 or 9448+ as it is known now was one of the best domestic panel,

9800 where the standard house panel once, untill the market where fully cowboyed with A1's & optima's 9948 where the 1st product to come with installers book which read like wally's DIY guide

Nothing cow boy about a 9448 at all a good little panel for what it cost,i dont remeber the 9450 but do remeber the panel that was in a 9452 plastic surround but was keyswitch operated

Hi all, thanks for replies. The panel is right on the wall upon entry of the house-well not actually fixed on-more like hanging by all wires-but it works ok! its a huge pad with keypad buttons to top right. the wires are i assume 1 power, 1 outside alarm box and 4 wires to the sensors. Its a fixed unit and unscrews to reveal the battery.Couldnt i just buy a compatible keypad? Thanks.

if you could, (which you can`t) what would you have achieved? usual scenario is to lift the end station up to ceiling height and fit a keypad at a lower level, looks worse IMO but then again people rarely want to pay the full price to re-site the control unit.

have a look at the modern day 2 part panels - the 9448 is quite small and neat in comparison, I would have it reinstalled and carry on with it
