satsuma01 Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 what do people think of the talking cctv being installed in some town centres. "If you carry your childhood with you, you never become old. topalarms Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 Good idea in principle as it draws attention to the surveillance, like all things though will wear off unless seen to be effective.
PJF Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Most town centres in england have it already in some shape or form. I believe its a good tool when used correctly & all of the CCTV control rooms that I have been to are very professional, with fairly switched on staff. Top tip: if you ever catch fire, try to avoid seeing yourself in the mirror, because i bet thats what REALLY throws you into a panic and dont forget the one thing you cant recycle is wasted time.
CompostCORNER Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 I've been involved with CCTV with tannoy systems for a good 8 years. Although now very dated, I used to fit Ozline/Telecam. All over PSTN back then and it was favoured by the client because of the 'talking'. A few schools and many industrial sites had the system and it would keep kids away from the building having live audio. Also, when it worked efficiently, when the system activated in the morning when the caretaker or first person to enter site came onto site, the operator at the recieving centre would see the caretaker/worker and aknowledge him with a 'Good Morning' over the speakers. Customers were well impressed as they always arrived on site knowing the system was working. The operation of the systems took a giant leap backwards when that company were 'aquired' as the aquiring monitoring station wouldn't use live audio. Instead, resorting to a CSL audio verification unit and expansion board where pre-recorded messages were used. The operator simply clicking an onscreen icon to initiate 1 of 3 pre-recorded messages. The sites somewhat became a little less personal for the client and left them a little nervous not knowing if the system was operating correctly. Another aquisition later and the Ozline/Telecam units have now finally become redundant. Most sites having their CCTV transmission transferred onto ADSL. So with live audio, I think it's a pretty fine idea.

ilkie Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 what do people think of the talking cctv being installed in some town centres. Complete waste of time and fraught with all sorts of operational and political issues. Like face recognition captures the headlines but with no long term benefit. Ilkie

wumpty Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 what do people think of the talking cctv being installed in some town centres. As with all cctv, if the system has been designed well ,installed correctly & c/s staff are well trained can be an excellent addition. Wumpty.
