BobFinch Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Hi I have a Galaxy 16 system and I want to reposition a PIR detector from its existing position in the rear lobby to a new garden office. A distance of about 10m. The cable is already run from the existing location to the new. I assume that I can remove the PIR, join the cable and refit the PIR in the new position? Do I need to "power down" the system? If so any advice as to how to do that would be appreciated. I have the Engineer code. Thank you.

magpye Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 I have the Engineer code." do you know the engineers code to the system? It does help if the post is understood as well as read!! Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.
Guest anguscanplay Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 garden office a shed outside ? theres a chance the existing sensor might not be suitable for the room, however if your going to do it just make sure you dont short out any or the cores within the cable and you should be fine no contract issues with the existing alarm is there ?
satsuma01 Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 put panel into EM and remove lid, take out aux fuse so 12vdc is disconnected then proceed with reposition, make sure all connections are sound and tight in pir and jb and replace fuse in aux holder, replace lid, take panel out of engineers mode and wait for tampers to show up, all ok?? jobs a goodun..... oh and forgot to say i would use a DT (Dual Tec) Detector in that type of enviroment!! BobFinch Posted January 6, 2008 Author Posted January 6, 2008 Thanks to all for your prompt responses. I have posted two replies but they do not appear on the Board, so I have obviously messed up somewhere. Apologies if they appear twice. The garden office is a bit more than a shed. Proper timber framed, insulated, double glazed building. No contract issues. Satsuma- "remove lid" - presumably this is the complete front cover to the control panel? "jb" - junction box? _ I had intended to tape the cable ends together- not good enough? Perhaps use those small clear plastic connector strips? No need to switch off electricity once in Engineer mode? The detector is a DS820 TriTech Thanks again
Guest anguscanplay Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 ah the detectors fine then, you could power it all down but the outside sounder should be going whilst you do it - I would just take the old unit down (cutting the ends of the cores individually) refit it, then make the joint off one core at a time using a proper joint box or solder and tape.Obviously the alarm will sound internally when you remove the lid but leave that till your finished, code in to stop it and then reset it - only problem will be if the installer has set it for engineer reset on tamper
