Guest anguscanplay Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 it all helps, it all helps, now how have you conected the dialler to the line - plug and socket or hard wired, are you checking the line at the same socket as the dialler is using (stop laughing at the back I`ve seen it happen)? can you take a voltage reading where the line terminates on the dialler, at least check the cable is connected to the dialler and not got trapped in the terminalbut we need to prove a line is there at the dialler, if need be take the dialler of and fit a temp socket on the end of the cable to see with a normal handset Ive had one of these with 1 leg of bt cord not terminated into A /B properly(out the box as well). Basic fault but easily overlooked Im with Wilks on this and there is no connection into A or B. This had happened to me also but if you 2 Gardtec geeks still want to go toe to toe then i suggest the TSI Boxing match and all money goes to charity!!!Line fail is either a wire not connected between the dialler and the phone line. That is it!! HMM? someone wearing a Captains hat isn`t listening is he ? btw - still waiting on the answer to " WHAT DO RESISTORS (YOUR FIRST ANSWER BTW) HAVE TO DO WITH LINE FAULTS...."
arfur mo Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 HMM? someone wearing a Captains hat isn`t listening is he ?btw - still waiting on the answer to " WHAT DO RESISTORS (YOUR FIRST ANSWER BTW) HAVE TO DO WITH LINE FAULTS...." absolutely nothing regarding the Gardtec dialer for line fault monitoring needs, but had you read the earlier reply where resistors were mentioned in a further question posed by the o/p and you obviously ignored as only you can, he asked (que nudge here 6.8k resistors ring a bell?) and i have now repeated several times, you would perhaps understand why the need for the trigger bias resistors being lower than 6.8k i don't know his panel, but if he extends the line fault monitoring output from the dialer into the panal, he may well need a further bias resistor to satisfy the panels input - or was that also way too technical for you? (well it was'nt fr the o/p by the way ) regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
Guest anguscanplay Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Hmm post number 1 Hi i'm new to this have just fitted a gardtec speech dialler but keeps saying that there is a line fault i have tested the line and ican phone out and receive calls so line is ok is it something i've done wrong and how i can put it right thanks post number 2 is it connected to a gardtec panel? if not you may need to fit a bias resistor[/b]regs alan sing along " We are sailing, we are sailing..................."
Alarm Protection Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 He has a cable problem from the panel to the dialler to the phoneline. It is somewhere inbetween! If not then its a faulty dialer but i have never seen a faulty dialler! Jesus Arf and Angus you 2 need to calm down!! Ha Ha! !
arfur mo Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Hmm post number 1post number 2 sing along " We are sailing, we are sailing..................." i fail to see what why you don't (or won't) understand simple plain english, the advise for the resistors is totally sound, it also applies to the sd1/2/3 range as well as gardtec as well as texacom dialers. perhaps you prefer not to give complete or prudent advice? you have had more holes shot in you than my rusty tin of Ovaltine regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
amateurandy Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 He has a cable problem from the panel to the dialler to the phoneline. It is somewhere inbetween! In which case obtain a suitably long phone extension lead and bypass the suspect wiring. He did say the dialler had a standard BT plug, didn't he? Mind you, by now, the OP has probably lost the will to live, what with the "old dears" bickering so much.
Alarm Protection Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 With you and Arf going on and on and on iv lost the will to live!! This is the DIY forum so simple answeres should be put on it! !

Arf " make sure you`ve got some anti freeze in your car...." so what does fitting resistors have to do with the O/P`s question ? did he say I got a speech dialler that doesnt trigger ? or did you once get an answer right and thats become your " stock " answer ? ROFL
Alarm Protection Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Connect it to trigger 3 and bobs yer uncle! !
