MichaelEdens Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Hello everyone. This is my first posting here and hope you can help me with a problem I have. We have recently moved into a home that uses a Scantronic 9800 Intruder Alarm System. Its my first alarm so we have had engineers out (no names please) to check the system etc and all was well. We asked them to set up 2 alarm modes. One a full system alarm and the other a nightime mode where 2 rooms are ommitted cause of 2 dogs roaming around at night. All seemed well as we always used nightime mode, but we recently tried the full system alarm and have found a problem. When we return home and enter the home, the alarm always sets off in full alarm alert. I found going through paperwork that the house used to have a door strip which has been removed and never reinstalled for some reason. I have been endlessly searching the internet for help in trying to program the alarm to tell it that the hallway sensor is the entry and exit point as there is no door strip, but have had no luck. Is such a thing possible? We did ask Mace engineers when they came to have it set to delay when returning home to entry code, which they said they have done, but quite clearly this is not happening, but many months have past since they called so cant really complain to them now. My fault, I should have checked this sooner, but never needed the full alarm system until now. Any help with this problem would be gratefully received. Anything to stop me jumping quickly into the house like Spiderman to enter the code and to stop the alarm sounding off too long.
topalarms Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 If your installer didn't do what you requested when you paid them to call, ring them and explain and request a re-visit to do what you asked.
Guest anguscanplay Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 you sure its not another detector picking you up when you enter - I charged a chap a lot of money the other day to tell him he has to close an internal door when he sets the alarm
fletch Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 It sounds to me like your hallway PIR is programmed as alarm with walkthrough during full set switching to entry/exit on part set. Put more simply, in part set the PIR is acting as entry/exit circuit, so when you enter the house the entry timer is activated allowing you to enter the house and unset the system. However, in full set the hall PIR reverts back to alarm with walkthrough which means it's looking for the front door to be opened to tell it to allow you 30 seconds to unset the system. As you no longer have the door sensor the PIR is not being told to allow you in and is activating the system immediately. This is easily rectified but you would need to call the alarm company so they can check the programming and test the setting/unsetting procedure. Hope this helps.
MichaelEdens Posted January 18, 2008 Author Posted January 18, 2008 Thanks everyone for your quick response. Just to mention, when the alarm is in Part Set (night mode) the hallway PIR is omitted for the dogs. This is why i can turn the alarm off in the morning as this is the only sensor that picks you up before entering the code. But yes, in full alarm mode, the hallway sensor is the only PIR that picks me up when entering the home from the outside before entering the code. But on your advice given, it sounds like the engineer needs to program the alarm properly with the correct exit/entry areas. Shame its not something simple for me to program. It has been 6 months since they came round, so I will have to write a letter in the hope they can finish the job properly free of charge. Thanks again.
arfur mo Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 you could always have per 'resistant' pir's fitted, and yes they are less responsive but far more responsive than nothing at all regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
Guest anguscanplay Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Hello everyone. I found going through paperwork that the house used to have a door strip which has been removed and never reinstalled for some reason. Hmm have to admit to getting sidetracked - when was the "door strip.." removed ?
MichaelEdens Posted January 19, 2008 Author Posted January 19, 2008 Hmm have to admit to getting sidetracked - when was the "door strip.." removed ? I see from the paperwork it was done from the previous house owners. I take it that when they had new windows and doors installed, the strip was never replaced. Guess they were tight with their cash.
