I tend to find that the most common panel used to be the ADE Optima XM or XL.

Although I find that more Texecom are around than ever before.

What do you all think.

I hate to admit it, but I see an incredible amount of Texecom control panels around these days in Domestic applications. It is a reflection on the direction the UK is taking towards "cheap and cheerful". I have no comment on reliability of Texecom because that would be unprofessional, but they hit the mark with systems that are Box-Standard and operate simple features and functions.

The result is unfortunately (and this is only my opinion) that the industry as a whole has allowed simple domestic systems to be installed by companies lacking in basic skills and professionalism. A professional company has the skills required to provide stability (and reduce false alarms).

The higher end of the System market often has control panels that are commented on as "complex" and "too fiddly to set up". This is in comparison with systems that are "throw on the wall". Unfortunately the simpler the system . . the simpler the engineer can be to install it. The term "engineer" used to mean something . . but not in recent years.

Oh crikey . . I can ramble !!

Your entitled to your say lol!!

Anyone else got any opinions?

Looks like Texecom is the most popular unless a whole load of new votes come in!!!

I think texecom is probably the most common for domestic now days because most electricians fit that or the Newey and eyre kit (which happens to be ADE).

Like Gimmick stated u do not need to be a genuis to install and programme either panel. These panels are almost DIY Which probably makes a point of The words Alarm Engineer. If you fit these panels day in day out r u an Alarm engineer or an electrician who can follow a manual.

Wot is an Alarm engineer now days??

Maybe a Security engineer!!

sorry seem to have gone of the suject a little xx

I think you are right.

Is an alarm engineer someone who installs a select amount of panles or do they have knowledge of all of them and only do security systems.

Interesting

Perhaps the question should have been re-phrased.

ADE has got to be the all time most common panel, the old Optima`s and Accenta`s are VERY common, and up until the time a couple of years ago when ADE`s equipment quality went through a bad patch they were one of the cheapest value for money panels you could buy. And now BOSCH have taken over they are rapidly gaining back the customers they once had.

Texecom have always made fairly good panels, and are probably the most widely used panel on the market at the moment for Domestic installations.

The most comonly installed panel is never the best though, just something that will do the job asked of it.

In the days when i used to work for a living(ie before i became a service engineer ;) ) the most popular panels was the c/k 700L (or800L as it became later). A nice and simple panel to fit and service. the only fault we used to get was dippy customers turning the chime on via the star key :) !!

these were also my panels of choice for guvvie jobs(jobs on the side for you non hull people), but i must admit the texacom came a close second when i needed a panel with more features.

nowadays i find the scantronic 9448+ offers excellent value at around £25 to £40 depending if you buy when gardeners are having one of their special offer months - a 7 zone panel with various options of fitting (keypad on board/remote keypad/additional keypad) for under £40.

An alarm (install) engineer usually sticks to a couple of types of manufacturer, as it doesn't make sense not to implement uniformity within a company, (without putting all your eggs in 1 basket).

Now a service engineer may well have to look after dozens upon dozens of different age and type of kit possibly due to take overs and acquisitions etc.(I work for //.National Installer.// I know).

Also you tend to find in smaller company's, engineers do both which I personally prefer, then it limits the 'them and us' scenario, and if the installing engineer may have to go back to site@ 0430 on a rainy November morning to a fault he WILL take more care initially.

;)

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
