cheapread Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Hi, I am just a pleb user of this device in a pub. It is a bog standard basic machine running with 4 cameras, recording on HDU but I think it cycles over 2 days max. coz of its 'small' drive 164 Gb. The authorities require me to have it set to 30 days recording. So...I need to upgrade this basic DVR so that it can record for a month at a time.... It currently has a standard maxtor 164Gb drive - I think I can easily enough install two 500 Gb drives - What I would like to know is - a few tips on how to set it up for recording on a 24 hour basis for 30 days - I assume I need to set it on default basic resolution 100 IPS - but what/where do I set the settings for - 'continuous rec 1 times 8x or something...and will I get 30 days worth out of that setting. Thanks for any help, in anticipation

Thanks for any help, in anticipation hi cheapread, for what they cost is it not worth considering a new dvr? i don't know this unit, so is it is capable recording on 'motion only' that is one way of extending the time recorded, also if you can set sheduled recording times to when you actuallyneed to be covered it can make a big difference. some dvr's hold there software actually on a hidden partition on the HD, with others it's in 'rom' and will need to format the harddrive to it's own flavour. either way the bios will need to be able to handle the larger drive and not allcan, which might not easily happen on a cheaper/older DVR. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
cheapread Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 Thanks Alarms and Alan - OK if I cant sus how to do it and it is obvioulsy not working I'll get someone in....but I'd like to become more familiar with CCTV generally and this app. in particular - I think you are right Alan, I may have to set it to activate on 'motion' only -which I believe it can - Also I may try a 'ghost' from the 140Gb to a new 500Gb master to copy any resident s/w /op system across to the new drive... Looking out for any other replies - thanks guys
Service Engineer Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Why not drop the frame rate.? 100 IPS = 2 days 50 IPS= 4 days 25 IPS = 8 days 12 IPS = 16 days 6 IPS = 32 days There's no need to record at 25 IPS per camera. ........................................................ cheapread Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 Hi guys, I've got the following website for version upgrades....which seems useful http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:CAzt0...t=clnk&cd=2 but just wondering what machine I've got.... I'm not on site right now , but the manual that came with it has examples of settings etc. and on the system info page it says model id DVRJ-04CH S/W vrsion ver 1.02 H/W version 1.0 product id 01s-2039-001008-kr-01 , so there's a fair chance I've got this model.... could u tell me which upgrade version I should choose from the above website please - there's all sorts there 4 ch 8 ch audio versions dual codecs etc....aaagh!
cheapread Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 Hi all, I've dropped the standard daily record to 1 x 16 (frame rate?). I've also added a 500Gb drive....but I think that was a waste of time coz however big the drives , it will only record for x days not a whole month ! So now my question is this ..... I realise that the 30 day scenario can only be achieved by daily archiving onto a CD of what has been saved on the HDU and letting the HDU go into overwrite mode. BUT a CD can only how very limited data - you can set the start time, but it automatically determines the end time itself and at the moment....that is NOWHERE near a 24 archive, its just a couple of hours...... How can I get 24 hours worth on the CD..... is there an acceptable recording rate on the machine, like 1 x 16 or 1 x 64 or whatever, that will correspond to 24 hours on a CD . OR will I have to install a DVD writer on the machine - perish the thought ..... upgrading the firmware, buying a new drive etc. aaaagh ( The DVR itself is probably an early model, but works fine....( 4 channel, no sound ; s/w vers 1.14 h/w vers 1.0)
