Please Help!

OPTIMA COMPACT FITTED in 2000

Hi,

Ive just bought a house that has an optima compact with a 6 zone system on it - installed from when the house was new as the whole estate has them. There is a entry zone wired to the same zone as the PIR in the kitchen, plus one more zone in the lounge.

My problem is that when you arm the alarm both warning lights come on for both the zones, they will omit and then it arms - which is pointless as then there is no active sensors. the outside box on the wall should have a two lights on it flickering between red and green, but this is not happening. Neither of the PIR's in the house seem to work as the red light does not appear once you are in the detection range, however there tamper is still active, as I opened one up to see if its wired up and set my alarm of in tamper mode. If its any help the people whoi installed are Ark Electrical Contractors from Wigan but there number no longer works.

Is the console busted or is it more complicated??? I am new to this and fairly confident at installation of electronics.

PLEASE HELP!!!!! :(

sounds like a fuse has blown inside the control panel. you would be better getting an engineer in and setting up a maintenance agreement for the yeay.

expect to pay 40-60 per year ish

hmmm,

not the best arrangement if your correct,

most decent companies would not do that arrangement, as apart from not knowing which device activated, the entry delay invoked activation if an intruder enters via a window, and if the panel is programmed so as not to re-arm that zone after it alarms, you will lose all the protection in the kitchen area if the pir activates due to an open window while your at work.

so i'd definitely get an engineer in to check and sort it out for you, but ask a guide price first to save on any heart attacks :P

Thanks guys,

The console is still working and the power light and keyboard activation still works - if the fuse had blown would all of this still work? What type of fuse is this (I have not looked this far in to it) and how easier a job is it to change? What possible issues could I have if it all goes belly up?

cheers

anything from bells ringing and not being able to stop them, to a fatal electric shock.

not sure on this panel but think separate fuses for aux power (feed the detectors) and the panel rail. expect 1amp 20mm glass fastblows.

but thats inmaterial, the fuse will have gone for a reason so best to have it checked out. alternatively even you change the fuse and if it holds for now and you don't happen to die yet, it could blow again later upsetting your neigbours, and then you could really risk dying - and all over again :cold2:

Hi Guys,

thanks for the advise, we has a series of power cuts and my wifes uncle (retired spark) wired up a outside light for us, I think he may of taken a feed from around the Alarm area, Im sure it did work when we viewed the house as I recall the agent disarming it. perhaps with him piddling around with the electrics its blown the fuse. I will get it checked out professionally. Does anybody know a trustworthy Alarm engineer in central Cheshire? Winsford/Northwich area??

Thanks again.
