Guest Woody Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 I have an optima xl4 system and want to swap my passives for petwise pir's, is it just a matter of disconnecting the old passives and wiring up the petwise one's? Or do I have get into the optima control panel. Any help would be appreciated. Woody
morph Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 You can do a straight swap, but i would disconect the wiring for the 12vdc power first in the panel. Remember there are main voltages in the panel that can kill. Once the new ones are fitted simply reconnect the 12volt feeds and close the panel, then test all is okay. Depending on what animals you have i would choose very carefully what detectors you fit and have a look at the spec sheets to see what there limitations are. Personally i would fit some Bosch detectors as they are very reliable and do what the manufacturers claim, bit more costly but worth it in the long run. Colin.
abbz Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 also another important thing to take into consideration is the height of ur old detectors. most pet detectors in general always recommend mounting them at a certain height which in my past i have found to be quite crucial.
DGMarsden Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 The petwise work very well for small animals but have to be mounted at the precise height to avoid false alarms. Dave
Guest Woody Posted May 9, 2004 Posted May 9, 2004 Thanks lads, it's only a small yorkie, I have read the installation insructions, it was just knowing if I could disconnect in situ and swap the wires over. I only have the user guide sheet for my optima XL4, not the installation instructions, so don't know how to open the control panel without setting it off. Thanks Woody
DGMarsden Posted May 9, 2004 Posted May 9, 2004 You will be able to open the panel and can do it without an engineer code. IF you feel you are not that compotent with electric then ask a professional company nearby. If you still want to go ahead then someone will tell you how to do it. Dave
Guest Woody Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 Managed to get a copy of the instructions, PIR now fitted and working, thanks for the help. Woody
Guest Gimmick Posted May 21, 2004 Posted May 21, 2004 I have a very specific and strong opinion on Pet Immune detectors, and am going to add a topic to this General Security Queries section so that it can be excercised properly. If you go to the section on "Pet Immunity - How They Work", then it might help you decide on what to do with the detectors. My advice is always, adapt the pet around the security, not the security around the pet. Gimmick.
