saz2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Hi again, This seems like a job that will be given to a professional, but just for my information, what would be the cause of a bell not ringing and a strobe not flashing in the SCB? That is both under test and under alarm conditions. The panel etc are working fine, and the internal sounders are ok. When the alarm was disconnected it followed a mouse attack on some cabling to the RKP and I was unable to turn it off, so disconnected power and let bell battery go flat. Battery in bell could well have been flat for 2 years or more now. Is the battery integral to the operation of the bell? Is it a fair guess to assume the flat battery has leaked destroying everything up there, too high for me to get to, and a new bell box is in order?
Guest anguscanplay Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 fair guess the mouse has eaten the bell cable too
saz2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Author Posted February 22, 2008 fair guess the mouse has eaten the bell cable too lol, the wires head off in different directions, and bell wire is definitely mouse-bite free.

saz2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Author Posted February 22, 2008 we`ll see - let us know what the engineer finds No, i have traced the bell wire from panel to inside the wall where the bell box is sited, and its integrity is intact, this was one of my early thoughts. So it just all goes wrong on the outside wall... wall itself is 3' thick stone, no cavity, ergo no mouse.

All i want to understand is whether the bell needs a working battery in it to operate correctly? were it not for my ladder phobia it would be sorted!
magpye Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 All i want to understand is whether the bell needs a working battery in it to operate correctly? Why would it need a battery if it would operate without one? Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.
saz2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Author Posted February 22, 2008 Why would it need a battery if it would operate without one? can a bell box just die then? It's in a harsh environment where security lights only survive a couple of years before corrosion gets them... hmmm guess i've just answered my own question

If you are ........ When replacing at the very least make sure you get a sounder with sealed electronics Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.
