Jenny19 Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 I know that this is not going to help me right now as I am already a victim of theft. My wallet has been stolen and I have lost all my important documents that even included my financial details. I fear that they may be used to make my accounts drain. I have already taken the necessary steps for this but this is going to be a real danger in future as it is sometimes too late and by that time everything is gone. I wanted to know that if there are any pre-steps that we can take in case of wallet theft?

If you are worried about ID theft and someone using your details to obtain credit then one of the credit refrence agencies can put a trace on your details and inform you whenever your details are being checked for a credit refrence. It may stop a fraud if you find out soon enough to stop such an event. I have never had to use this service but I would consider doing so depending on the docuements lost. Make sure all credit cards are cancelled etc and check they have been! Go to your bank and explain the situation, they may change your account number to stop fraud. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Life is like a box of chocolates, some bugger always gets the nice ones! arfur mo Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 this situation raises the spectre of ID cards if ever compulsory having to be carried. these days i don't carry more than a switch card and some cash, gave up on wallets some time back having lost several by accident with all the plastic, driving license and cash inside them - very inconvenient if nothing else. if we are ever to be forced to carry id cards what will happen if it is stolen? you will likely be a victim of yet another stealth tax by means of a hefty fine because it got lost and you could not carry it. switch cards can be canceled easily, so just keep some spare cash in the motor and at least you have the fuel money to get home if the worst happens. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
