Hi, I really hope someone can help me out with my cctv recorder. I bought it off ebay a couple of years ago I dont know what make it is but it looks identical to the one on this ebay link:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/P20-CCTV-4-CH-HDD-DV...1QQcmdZViewItem

Basically Ive always struggled to use it as the instruction book is rubbish, but after playing with it for a while Ive usually got it to work. However now when I really need it because my car window was put out last night I cant even get the menu to come on! I practically caught the guys who did it but the police say as I didnt actually see them do it, unless I can give them the cctv recording of them doing it they are going to get off with it!

I keep trying the menu button but nothing happens, Ive even tried the risky move of turning it off so the recover data menu will come on and it just goes straight back onto the quad monitor display. Instead of just displaying the date and time the display says: EACH/REC<F>2008/02/29 12:45.06*

I know its a long shot but dose anyone have any advice or is it time to bin my recorder and if so can anyone recommend a more simple replacement, preferably that dosent cost the earth either as Im skint and I need to buy a new window for my car?

Does your unit have a removable HDD ?, as from a distance its sound as if the unit has given up but you may be able to put your HDD into another unit & then make a copy. I'm no expert on the cheaper stuff, but you get what you pay for & to be honest at

Top tip: if you ever catch fire, try to avoid seeing yourself in the mirror, because i bet thats what REALLY throws you into a panic and dont forget the one thing you cant recycle is wasted time.

is the unit still recording when you try to look at images??...as some need to be stopped before you can view images :)

tbh unless you have the software to read the file format (the reader may be on CD that came with the unit - if you can find it) i think you are going to be out of luck.

pro kit also fails, but usually the favoured flavoirs someone can dig you out of a hole. you are at the sharp end of the perils of buying dirt cheap kit coming home to roost me thinks.

but hey, it's only a window and what ever the window was broken for - perhaps a wallet? so overall your still quids in against a 2k pro machine that would have worked.

so be pragmatic i.e. 'kack happens' always make sure you have a roll of tissue paper handy - and a clean vest on (in case the papers soggy!).

Hi, Ive tried every button on the remote and unit its self and the only things that seem to do anything is QUAD, CAMERA 1,2,3&4 and PTZ. When I press record the bottom display briefly flickers off and goes straight back onto: EACH/REC<F>2008/02/29 15:42.06* (obviously the time constantly changes). I'm well and truly stumped!

Sounds like the mo-fo's have fot away with it then. :(

Is there any reasonably decent recorder I can replace my unit with for a few hundred rather than thousands as money is tight at the moment!

if the kit is blown for a budget kit have a look at the aver media solutions, we recently had a diy'er sounding their praises.

if your computer competent and familiar, how about a geovison card slotted into your pc? i've used them to ery good effect and you can have remote monitoring on a dynamic ip.
