kuchars22 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Hi, I've got a COP 15VP16-CDRW unit and have been accessing the unit locally on the network without issues. It's got a static address with the default port of 65535. I also have a satellite receiver on the same subnet set to port 80. The problem is, is that I am able to connect to the sat receiver, but not to the DVR. Both are sitting behind a Linksys WRT54GSV4 router. Even when the firewall is off, and all restrictions taken off, I'm unable to connect to the DVR. If you are aware of the remote viewing software, you can specify the IP address only (not hostname) and the port number. On the router I have added the port number, 65535, to port forward to the DVR IP address as I have done with the sat receiver, but this still doesn't work, as if there is no response or does not exist on the network. It's all pingable from within the local network. My ISP IP address is not static (Virgin Media), but I have it registered with dyndns, but everything is referenced by the IP anyway. It sounds that the problem is with the DVR in my opinion, as the remote viewer is configured the same way as on any of the local PCs, and I can connect to devices within the LAN from the Internet. DowshuTech Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Hi Might be worth putting the dvr into the DMZ of the router there should be an option in the linksys to specify an ip address this will allow all traffic to the DVR i have seen this problem before where some dvr's require additional ports to connect if that works run the command netstat from the connected pc and it will list all used ports. as you say its working on the local network its unlikly to be the dvr. Hope this helps

kuchars22 Posted March 20, 2008 Author Posted March 20, 2008 I've sorted it out now! It looks like our company firewall blocks this, and amongst other, unused ports. I was able to get onto my sat receiver as it was using the well known port of 80 for http traffic, which is unblocked for Internet traffic. I actually came to this conclusion by getting a friend to do the testing from his own network. I suppose the only around this is to put the DVR on an open port that is open on our company firewall. Thanks for the tips guys, I always learn something new whenever problems occur!
