Hi I am trying to connect a menvier m12 fire detector to my dsc panel and i am struggling with the resistors,I am using 5k6 resistors linking T3 to E then E to T4 but i keep getting an open zone on the panel , its driving me crazy. Can anyone help before i throw the hole lot in the bin.

Hi: Smokes are connected to DSC panels as follows: Smoke must be a Normally open type. Dual end of line is not used for smokes, these are automatically set to single end of line when you programme the zone to Fire. Connect detector as follows: 1) Aux + from panel to detector +. 2) PGM1 from panel to detector negative. 3) Z from panel to detector com. 4) Com from panel to detector N/O. 5k6 fitted across comm & N/O in detector. PGM1 should be programmed as option 3 (detector reset) and the appropriate zone programmed as fire.

For the last 2 items you will need to know the Engineer code for your panel and have access to the Engineer programming manual or the Installation manual.

Hope this throws some light on things for you.

Andy,

What is the DSC panel like for programming etc?

Is it easy to set up on say Redcare GSM but have the facility to dial in and change setting?

Have a lot of panels installed by British Gas but keep clear of them due to locked engineer codes etc.

cheers

Willie

Hi Andy thanks for the help but the menveir M12 is a normaly closed detector i have aux+ going to T1 Aux- going to T2 Zone to T3 Com to Z4 Resistor from T3 to E terminal Resistor from E terminal to T4.

Hi Willie: Unfortunately I cant answer that 1 for you as it is not something I have ever had to do, I was contracted by BG home security to install & maintain these systems so all of ours used the built in communications. As for programming they are not that bad if you have the Engineer & Programming manuals. If you would like to email me about this the Email address is: amsec@tesco.net and we can go into further detail privately.

Question: Is your system connected to an ARC & if so how are they to differentiate between an Intrusion and a Fire?

If you are connecting this to a standard zone that is not programmed for fire then the smoke will only be active when the system is set and not 24 hours as intended.

If you are connecting as a standard circuit then you would connect 1 wire from the zone to 1 side of the detector contact, place 1 x 5k6 resistor across the contact and wire 1 x 5k6 from the other end of the contact in series with your return to the zone on the panel.

Please note that this is definately not to be recommended because as stated above you will not have 24 hour cover and you will not know if there is an intruder activating the system or a fire, possibly until it is too late. If you want a fire zone & want it done properly, why not contact your nearest Dynosecure office?.

That doesn't sound right to me. Shouldn't your alarm resistor be between T3 and T4 and then your EOL resistor between Earth and T4. With one core to Earth and the other to T3?

The DSC fire attributes are normally open, with seol 5k6 across the n/o. I had the same problem so reverted back to DSC heads, rather than bugger about with a relay each time.

I guess Dyno will be changing their engineer codes soon then, as it looks like that info is freely available on here via pm.

The older I get, the faster I was.

Hi: Could you maybe expand on your Engineer codes comment, as I have not seen any evidence of this on the Forum. If your comment was actually aimed at me then it would be a good idea to have your facts straight before commenting, the information that I was offering to Willy had nothing to do with divulging BG / Dyno engineering codes. Other than that the information offered is really of no concern to you or anyone else.
