Bodycount Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Hi All Don't know which forum to put this one in Every year since we have moved into the house which has had this alarm already fitted, when the weather gets warm (don't know if the weather is the reason) but the main panel sounder goes off, I put the alarm code in and the sounder goes off, but last night it went off and I put the code in the sounder did not go off, so i had to open the main box up and remove some fuses, the sounder was still going off but it was a lot quieter. What could be causing the sounder to go off and why did putting my code in not work this time? Thanks Rob.

It's possible that the outside bellbox is expanding in the heat and releasing the tamper switch, it may be as simple as adjusting the bellbox tamper or fitting a new bellbox. It probably continued to sound after removing the fuses because there was some life in the bellbox battery.

Could well be and the SAB is kicking in, but years without service and there will be other issues aswell.
weesidney Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 I've seen this problem before during warm weather, on every occasion it's been the tamper switch on the bell outside. I'd agree with topalarms on this one, the bell outside has a battery inside that only activates the sounder on loss of power from the main panel (scenario - bell box is tampered with during a break in and the wiring is cut to the bell causing loss of power) some bells have a timer built in that cut the sound off after a certain time but I've seen older bells/sirens keep ringing until the battery dies or is removed. My advice would be to get an engineer to open the bell up and adjust the tamper switch or just replace the whole thing if it's been up a few years (usually the screws holding the lid on are so rusted that the only option is to drill them out thus destroying the cover) If it's been a few years since a service then the battery in your main panel probably needs checking also. Hope this helps wee sid
