Practice in the evening, until you get it right. Only make sure you are practising in the right way at the right time for it.
ln1234 Posted May 16, 2008 Author Posted May 16, 2008 Thanks for the responses. I've checked with Building Control and they insist that we need a system that conforms to BS5839 part 1, even though it's a single family dwelling house! If you don't mind me asking again, are the panels I listed really as bad as has been made out on here? It is a family house, and although we don't want to necessarily scrimp on something so important, we don't want to go OTT and get a system that may be overkill. james.wilson Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 I think the point they were making is that any system will have to be certified by the installer. If your planning this as a DIY id check to see if they will accept it without. Equipment choice is a difficult one, I may like model x and hate model y, for differing reasons. The first you linked was a bottom end yet compliant panel. But your installer will have choosen equipment that he supports and then all your research may be wasted. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
luggsey Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 If it's a fully domestic single family occupancy house then you don't need a fulll on fire alarm system - mains interlinked smoke detection with battery back up yes. You do depending on the floor area of the house, last "big" house I commissioned had to have a full system.... I think it's more then 100m2 per floor if memory serves which it doesn't normally! Is it in part 6??? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Life is like a box of chocolates, some bugger always gets the nice ones! Therefore you would be better off gettling a quote for the complete supply/install and commissioning of the job from a few companies. If the place is nicely decorated and you don't want carpets up/ floor boards up and most likely cables showing, then you may consider a wireless system....

Woosh Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 The poster said "four floors" is that why they are looking for a full system?

Part one does not relate directly to domestic dwellings but can be used as a reference to part 6 of BS5839 (2004) but here's a run down - Grade D
