OrderlyConduct Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Hi, I have a second-hand Scantronic 9800 which I want to fit to my house. I've set the system up on the bench pretty much as I want it, and it is working fine. However I have a couple of questions: The 9800 is an 8 zone system which is adequate but 16 zones would suit my needs better. I have read online that Scantronic make a zone expander, would it be compatible with the 9800 and where would I get one? My second hand panel came with no backup battery, but even if it had come with a battery I would be wanting to fit a new one, so which type should I buy? If someone could provide an RS Components part number for something suitable that would be ideal. Regards
Nova-Security Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 if its an old 9800 then its not expandable, but some of the later ones 9800 + you can add the expander. You need to know which 9800 you have got. www.nova-security.co.uk www.nsiapproved.co.uk No PMs please unless i know you or you are using this board with your proper name.
Guest RJBsec Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 As the 9800 series is now obsolete finding the expander board could be a problem.
OrderlyConduct Posted May 17, 2008 Author Posted May 17, 2008 Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. How can I tell the 9800 and the 9800+ apart? I can't see anything obvious on the main PCB. On a side note -- can anyone recommend a good quality panel with at least 16 zones?

Look for a big white sticker on the main circuit board, normally stuck on a chip. On a side note -- can anyone recommend a good quality panel with at least 16 zones? Woosh Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 The 9800 is a good panel I still have one in my house and I may have an expander I will look if not go to the usual haunt Ebay but the control unit you have is bomb proof.
Alarm Protection Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 I would suggest a Gardtec 490x with eol or a 595 with the expansion modules. !
