ukpbz Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 Hi Guys, Sorry didn't mean to start anything.... My reasoning is this...... 1) I live 300 miles away from them so if they have a system I know its better for me to give advice 2) My parents have on several occasions been duped into spending more than they should on 'repairs' (Certainly not saying the guys in Ncle Alarm world are like that) and I worry when someone comes out on an open call saying they may have to trace through the whole system as it could be a loose wire hidden under the floor (What they told my dad when he rang) 3) The response system is less complicated than this professional as you tap the number in for on/off where as the IAS one you need to press reset as well I think it is a real IAS one as the guy who fitted it seemed a nice guy although he doesnt do alarms anymore sadly so they can't get him back. for all the advice Paul
james.wilson Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 there has been long discussions on these systems before, i dont mean wireless in general the proper stuff is very good. http://andrewu.co.uk/blog/archive/?alarmed..._response_alarm sums it up I also beleive its not compliant with en50131, so how it meets industry standards im unsure. But i don understand its designed for diy use so has to be simple to fit etc, but i think considering the level of belief you may have in it.... is it worth it? No-one is going to give you a fixed price callout, as im sure you understand, and if you have a problem with your new system who's gonna attend and fix it? Id say you seem the ideal person for a service agreement with a company, approved companies have to offer a guaranteed 4 hour response time to emergencys out of hours callouts, this seems a better option for you given your circumstances? securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
ukpbz Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 If it goes wrong there are not that many parts to replace. Let me ask this. Professional or not, if the Alarm goes off it has the same effect surely? I am not trying to justify as of course the Pro version is much better. I think the service contract might be too expensive for them to be honest. Do you know if there are any resource of information on these IAS devices as I (Electronics engineer by trade 20 years ago ( ) may be able to have a look and change the battery. OR - Is there a list of engineers in the North East who are 'recommended' that you know of Thanks
Guest anguscanplay Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 better to change it to a panel with remote access (Risco 490X etc) then YOU could control it from home - maybe?
james.wilson Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 risco wont supply the software to non registered installers, you would have to use a texecom premier or a visonic powermax or who volunteers in the north east to look after this chap? securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Guest anguscanplay Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 you would have to use a texecom premier or a visonic powermax thats the one I couldnt remember LOL
arfur mo Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 OK arf, so your agreeing the best thing to do is fit a response wireless system? i;m going ti put you on the 'naughty chair' in a minute James - put that mobile down and pay attention -: o/p has to weigh up the cost of the new kit and what innovations/improvements it may bring to his advantage (but that selected is not a good candidate for improvement impo) against say If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
arfur mo Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 risco wont supply the software to non registered installers, you would have to use a texecom premier or a visonic powermaxor who volunteers in the north east to look after this chap? he can with the prosys software its a fee unrestricted download if i remember rightly, but i'd be wary to suggest a none alarm engineer works on any system via a pc iink locally let alone remotely. what if a pir zone gets set as a fire by accident, he exits the program zone trips he can't get back in due to the voice dialer engaging the line? not a good idea imo. service calls - a short story. factory owner calls out a compressor mechanic, insist he comes right away as factory at a standstill, guy gets there 2 hours later governer says "no matter what it costs get it working", so mechanic takes a 2 lb hammer from his bag and wacks the machine which instantly comes to life and returns the hammer to bag. very happy the governer thanks the mechanic. a week later receives invoice for If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
