frank Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Hi Everyone,Posting for my parents who live up in Sunny Tyneside. They have an alarm. Had it for many years. Its a numerical push button one. They say the only name on it is 'IAS' or could be 'JAS' Its worked fine for yonks but recently they have had a problem. The alarm went off for no reason (They say it wasn't even on but they are in their 70s) So as usual my dad went in and typed in the code. Alarm went off. On the panel the 'tamper' and 'power' lights were both red. So he hit the 'reset' button, they went to green. However after 5 mins the alarm went off again. It seems if he simply just types in the code, the alarm does switch off but the lights stay green. If he then hits reset, the alarm seems to arm again. Any ideas on what I can ask him to do? Is he doing it right? He has 3 zones, should he isolate each zone and see if he can pin point it? Could it be a battery in the unit dieing? He has never had it changed (If in fact it has one) Any help greatly appreciated Thanks Paul
frank Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 as James has said, best get it loooked at by a local company, call and ask giving the same info you have to us but ask for a 'guestimate' before engaging them as prices vary conciderably for such calls, depending on the company used. the system needs the batteries tested and i'd guess replaced if not looked at for over 3 years. they act as stand-by in mains fail situations but if faulty can either not take over or start to short and lower the panel voltage, at worst cause terminal damage to it. you parants are elderly and some distance away, if they get a situation where thay can't silence the system especially in the early hours this can be very stressful, so an engineers call should put their (and your) minds to rest. regs alan
