fazer Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Hi. Just wondered if I could pick someones brain. I had installed 10 years ago a securit 700l system. It has one door magnetic, 4pir and 2 control pads. Last night the alarm would not set, on pressing our code, the control pad emitted its usual sound but did not set the alarm nb we use the * 0 option for zoning and usually get a short tone for confirmation the alarm has set, this is how I first discovered it was faulty. So I went downstairs to try the other pad, and the same happened. This morning, I took off the main cover on the main control box, the alarm did not activate! (tamper protected) checked the fuses, which are ok, checked the battery with and without mains, and it was holding a 9.25v. I have not checked the battery in the exterior box, hehe too high for me. Any ideas before I have to pay for a service engineer. (the company that installed the system ceased trading 5 years ago, thus my maintenance contract ceased with them, I know I should have sourced another, but hey were all human and like to save money )
Gopher Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Well Battery at 9.72v sounds like it's needing replacing if like that with / without mains. However the charging circuit may be damaged as well. What it sounds like is the panel has lost mains power at some point and gone on to battery. You sure you have mains power at the panel as there is not only the fuse within the panel but either a fused spur near the panel, directly fed from a fuse the Consumer Unit which should be clearly marked or both Be very careful when check the mains as well 240v AC isn't something to be messed with, it should be protected by a 6amp MCB if on the Consumer Unit and /or a 3amp fuse if there is a fused spur. Maplin do 12v batteries but make sure it has the same Ah rating or there about, slightly more is sometimes better. Hope that helps Intruder / CCTV / Access Control Technical Support Personal Subscriber to the "K.I.S.S" principle, that's Keep It Simple Stupid, are you?
Guest RJBsec Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 checked the battery with and without mains, and it was holding a 9.25v. Should be between 12.5 & 13.5 volts so it's in need of replacement and could be the cause of your problems. Since it apears that you have disconnected mains and battery and still have no resolution it is time to call in an engineer, expect at least a callout charge of between
james.wilson Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 yeah the charger circuit could be damaged and if its never been serviced probably is. If the panel is charging at that voltage with no load (ie no battery) its shot. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
fazer Posted June 4, 2008 Author Posted June 4, 2008 Thank you for the posts, I know it spurs off using a 3amp fuse, will check theres mains going to the board and change the battery and will update once that is done. Im not an electrician, but can get my way about for most mundane things

fazer Posted June 5, 2008 Author Posted June 5, 2008 Fixed. I didn't mentioned we had a power cut that day it stopped working. I read another forum and suggested I powered the unit down, so did, removed the battery, reconnected and it's working again ... I have ordered a battery and will replace that when it arrives.
Chorlton Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 glad you got it fixed & thanks for letting us know the result as many folks don't C.
Gopher Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Indeed thanks for let us know. Sometimes it's not even a power cut just a little blip, not enough to reset many items but enough to upset some things like alarm panels & computers, rarely happens when your in of course... I really should get a UPS / mains filtering for my computer...
