arfur mo
Id agree alan but that doesnt provide the level of control that the HA system needs to run efectivly. The only way is to use serial from the panel to the HA system then it has all the variables it needs. You can do it on outputs but then it doesnt allow log viewing etc via the i/f no fight from me, but like i said earlier thats for a monority of systems, way ott for most normal houses. as for going via ip - why, whats the point? month later novelty wears off never used again, well unless your the buildings manager - and those are normally plonkers rarely know what they do it for, even if they learn how in the 1st place (sorry - result of many exaperating conversations where they simply would not listen and cocked up something taking hours to find out what and put right). regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! james.wilson
Arfur, Home automation is quite a big thing, granted most customers wont ask you for it as your security etc, when we have done it we have been employed as the specialist security comapny to i/f with the H/A system. There has been another thread on here about linux mce but security is a tiny part of h/a and i will eventually get around to a full system, all i have is lighting, heating and security automated. James ps link to example sure it will gain more favour, if thats a good thing or no is another matter and chosen by the individual. i tend to see situations where it should be used and aws not, also where it was and should'nt have. if i can just get that sequence sorted out i can make good money out of it. i'm not really a techy dinosaur, and definitely not 'just into alarms. add in - telecoms, networking, CCTv, access control, door entry, PA to name just a few i can point my rusty trusty neon screwdriver at. add bespoke electronic design and production ability then my 'package' go's to make for some of the most ideal bedfellows for an integrated approach. yet i'm not convinced it always has the value perceived by the buyer where its been asked for, often after deeper discussion it reveals the wrong motivation was in evidence and a conventional approach is then far more efficient. there is always people who want total integration and perhaps live in little more than a garden shed, and good luck to them, i just think we need them to think it through properly, are they being fanciful or if they really really need it (but then we a blokes so of course we do - dearest ). end of the day if i'm asked to install it i will, my version of integrity rules mean i like what i do to be fully justified. i don't want to have to bat the "they only needed this, but you ripped them off and fitted all that" type conversations, had enough of that working for firms in the past so i'm cautious. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
