Dectector Advice

I have a DIY install, and I am looking from advice.

I want to add a detector to protect the windows at the front of my house. The easiest place to put the new sensor for wiring purposes would be in the corner of the room facing the window.

My problem is I have two cats and they both jump on the window sill. Should I fit an animal immune PIR, or a glass detector like this

Are these dectectors fitted facing the glass ?

I would be grateful for any advice, thanks.

Yes I do have a pet PIR in the front room.

does it cover the window already and you want to double up so to speak?

No it doesn't cover the window. It's a small separate room next to the front door.

I wouldn't use a PIR unless you can aim it in such away as it only covers the window and not what's outside which is pretty difficult, the glass break is a good idea another idea might be to get a shock sensor and adjust it so that the cats jumping up don't set it off but someone breaking in would as they have adjustable sensitivity, or you could fit that glass break dectector as it would do the job.

Hope that helps you some more.

Thanks for the advice. I think the Glass Break Detector may be the best option then. I would fit a Shock Sensor but I am not sure where I could hide the cable.

it's your house & security is 1 thing but it has to look like a home not a factory, lol

your choice seems the best taking in all relevant factors.

remeber to get it serviced annually and a new panel battery every 3yrs to keep the system in tip-top cond & have access to 24/7 call out cover should you get the dreaded loud ringing at 3am or while your on holiday.

Personally i dont like glass break detectors, too many past experinces of false alarms, and missed genuines (glass types and acoustics are critical plus you have 1 chance to detect it, no second chances). We now dont fit them at all.

I understand your cable issue why not have a look at radio vibration detectors, same size (ish) now and ideal for this application

need some info for better advice, but some info follows -:

whats in the room? if no real value then an intruder entering this way will move further around the house triggering another device..

a glass break will not detect a window left open when setting (like it will with a door), so an intruder will not break the glass entering through it if you do not physically check.

vibration can be set off by external causes like window cleaners, lose casements or that batty neighbor not getting an answer to the door bell, banging on every window saying 'coo-ee! are you in there?', also less effective if at all should the window be left open.

pir's won't 'see' through glass they are passive so have to receive IR energy, they can be affected by reflected sunlight of glossy surfaces, or on older pir's car headlamps beaming into the room onto the sensor, so ideally they are not faced at the glass.

but tbh its far better to do that than the other two options, as its rare with modern pirs to be so affected.

read the pamphlet that comes with it carefully, for the best advice on setting it up and best placement, and don't over complicate the task ;)
