Alarm Reset

Can anyone help me please.

I have a ABACUS  8 way Security Alarm Panel which was manufactured approximately 1995.

Unfortunately I have recently had a power failure and the system went onto the battery, which because we were away at the time, also went flat.

On returning and powering up the system, the alarm system will now not clear and it would appear that I need to call the engineer in to reset.

Is there any engineer reset that I can do or will I need to pay for someone from the alarm company to come and reset?

Would appreciate any help you could give me please.

Thanks

B) I've not used the ABACUS panel before So I will have a gues that the panel dosn't like to be repowered with a battery in a faulty condition (flat)

you may need to open the control panel and replace the battery before you can reset it in the normal way. Note there are live mains inside this can Kill

If you have a company that normally services your alarm then I would recomend that you phone them for advice, They will most likely need to come out to replace the battery.( they will most likely be chargeing you a call out for this check with them first)

Providing the power has restored and the battery is not U/S, simply setting and unsetting will clear the display.

Do not open the panel as the ENGINEER code may be locked to the panel, or a coded reset may be required.

If the system has not been serviced in the last three years, then I would arrange to have this done.

If you post what part of the country you are in, one of the lads on the forum would be able to service your system for you.

Do you have a user manual for the system.

Just out of interst, if the alarm allows you to set it, set the alarm as normal and then unset the system. The display may well return to normal. Abacus units have an annoying gripe that when something goes wrong, it will display the fault which is good. But if the fault has cleared, the display will not revert back to normal. A quick set then unset of the system usually clears the display. If the display fails to clear, then the battery will indeed need replacement.

Thank you all for your replies. I have tried all the suggestions (it does allow the alarm to be set) but the panel is still in the alarm condition.

It is likely that a power surge occured (we were away at the time) and it may be that the panel/battery has been damaged.

The system is serviced annually but I was reluctant to pay a call out fee if it were possible to set the alarm simply from the front panel. I will arrange for the company to come out.

Thanks again for everyones help.

If what you are saying is correct that the alarm sets, if you press yes when ALARM! is on the screen what does it tell you?

Abacus 8/80 have a problem that if the mains goes and the panel is left on the battery and that runs down you get funny errors like checksum or watchdog or linefault even if its a bells only system, if this is so then the outputs in the engineering menu need to be programmed to the default state, you need somebody that knows these panels.
