seems the O/P would rather go with the first advice he gets on a topic than have the poster corrected ....... still its his shout

The O/P will consider all advice that he gets, but is reluctant to comment and get drawn into the squabbling that some posters seem to yearn for in here.

Here's my board. It's a little different. Interestingly, the AT microswitch is on the PCB. The lid for the case doesn't come anywhere near it. I had to glue a 30mm piece of wood on the inside of the lid.

right that cofirms a modem in the slot if enabled & the line works & you will an ac no. for the host computer & mobile phone details added correct text to chc then it should be able to send you a text

How do I go about getting an account no? and who from?

I see your phone line is alarm cable?

Yes the alarm panel is just above the incoming phone socket. So I used a couple of feet of alarm cable to bring the A and B to and from the alarm panel.

I'll change them immediately before I castigated for using them.

Ask Bosch?

Alarm cable does not like IDC

A and B are the wrong way around in error - They where meant to correspond to 2 and 5 but somehow got muddled in design specs.

Mudding the A/B side makes no odds, and muddling the 2/5 makes no odds (usually), however, misswiring a 2/5 on a single extension when you have term 3 connected, and are using bog standard pots phones, the phone will ring constantly when on hook.

As said, with broadband, term 3 can be disregarded, and it is actually better to do so, especially on 'angry lines'.

Term 3 is there as a legacy connection, but is still used by all pots telephones. Cordless phones and many modern phones do not use it, but the plain old bog standard handsets do require it as a ringer. With an ADSL filter, it matters not.

As for running a phone line up and down the same cable doggy (forgot your sign in name, but remember the dog), on a 2 meter run I can't see it having any effect at all. I have done it this way a few times with no problems, and have seen many others do the same. I would be interested to here the views of some others comms guys on that. I can see where you are coming from though.

That explains a lot. Was it the same muddle that led to the illogical opposite-way numbering of BT plugs and sockets?
