As for running a phone line up and down the same cable doggy (forgot your sign in name, but remember the dog), on a 2 meter run I can't see it having any effect at all. I have done it this way a few times with no problems, and have seen many others do the same. I would be interested to here the views of some others comms guys on that. I can see where you are coming from though.

BT do it that way ..........

Ask Bosch?

I wouldn't know where to start looking for the contact details. I'm beginning to think my alarm panel is subject to the official secrets act. There's so little information available for it. Is there not a list somewhere of companies who provide this service?

As far as I can see, that's a list of installers. I'm looking for a company that I can register with in order to relay text messages from my alarm panel.

point was maybe you should think about getting someone in to do this work for you.

Now that the alarm is installed and connected to the phone line. All that's needed is for the panel to be correctly configured. I think most installers would walk away from getting involved with an amateur system that they hadn't installed.

But by accident I found this:

I'll give some of them a call and see what's what.

I really cant imagine the O/P (remember him?) has an old style trim phone and modern phones dont need a ringer when as in this case YOUR ON BROADBAND - the ring is generated from the filter

strewth, your comms advice is as bad as your mains - LOL

and why would you assume he won't - ebay abounds with old phones, people like them for nstalga and decor, there is no uppper or lower age limit to that market.

amazingly you are the one always spouting off all about the regs, applying them and knowing them thoroughly, and yet here you are the wolds biggest digicom/redcare 'king' of telecoms throwing - them them all out of the window.

i don't think your anywhere near qualified to raise criticism on any of my advice

regs

YAWN ..... there is no ring signal on terminal 3 - its broadband, go try it with your test meter. Doesnt matter what phone your using - on broadband !!!!

I`m more qualified than you are, thats for sure. You blew it when you advised the O/P to connect his dialler to earth via a local gas or water pipe, go ride your bike or wash the dog or something else useful for a change till this thread concludes

short run it is possibly ok in the real world, and doing it for yourself then thats you call. but do it for a client, if they get billed by BT to rectify your works your not so popular anymore, and may be asked to foot the bill into the bargain.

voice example was to simplify, do this with data you have to realise the info is traveling at a much higher rate causing a massive amount of echo's, bit like shaking a hall carpet from both ends at the same time the induced ripples will collide lowering perfomance by adding to NEXT and FEXT even on a short cable.

speeds are increasing and designed to work on the same existing cable, so if you ignore the recommendations today you might be fine, come tomorrow and you go from 4 meg to 10 meg mighht work but mos tlikely will be slower than it could be.

if you get a chance, have a look on a decent lan analyser like fluke cat6 unit, run the test which shows the problems caused.
