Guest AdamKilgariff Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 just moved into a new house of which has a veritas alarm system installed to my knowlage installed around april 1999, the layout of the house is front door leading to hall, from the hall we have a dining room first left, lounge to second left, and kitchen straight ahead. the alarm control panel is located in kitchen any way to the point... dog like to roam about, shes not allowed in the dining room and lounge when im not in she is kept in the kitchen and hall... full set covers the etire downstairs however part set excludes the back door. in order to set the alarm when dogs in i have to omit zones, however i was wondering if its possible for myself to change the part set facility to exclude kitchen and hall zones, rather than omiting zones to set the alarm if this is possible, id be very greatful if you can instruct me how.
Steve K Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 Hi Adam, You have a few options.......... You will need to know the engineers access number in order to reprogram the part set suites. If your alarm has been in since 1999 has it been serviced in that time? Your batteries may need replacing to ensure reliability and correct operation. Another option is to change out the PIR's for pet tolerant type. If your dog is up to 100lbs in weight you will find a detector that will generally ignore pets. The science of these detectors is not exact from room to room, and it depends on the room layout, and the environment in which they will be located. Part setting your system is a compromise on the functionality of your alarm system. Pet tolerant detectors are to a small degree but not as much as omitting areas from the protection the alarm affords you. I would suggest that the best option is to get your alarm serviced by a reputable company (what area are you in?), if funds are tight, then get your alarm part set suites programmed to your wishes, and then later consider replacing the PR's with pet tolerant ones. You never know, you may be lucky and find out that the visiting engineer informs you that the ones currently installed are in fact pet tolerant! There is no way for the layman to establish if the PIR is pet tolerant. It will need opening up and an experienced engineer to identify the PIR model. There are however a few that are immediately identifiable as Pet Tolerant PIR's. Hope this helps you - any probs - raise them here!!
