alterEGO Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Ok, here we go again. First off as you said, you work for your dad[organ grinder]. Your dad seems to think its a good idea to use an approved alarm company http://www.spisecurity.co.uk . I wonder what your dad and the alarm company would think of you comments? I suggest you wait untill you have your own company and a much better idea of what your talking about before you keep opening your mouth about a trade you know very little about. You could install your own plug socket and cable, and it may power your scalextric, but does that mean it is installed to the correct standard and vetted to that standard? Number two, there are a number of TOPICS STARTED BY YOU asking how to do some of the simplest tasks in this oh so simple trade, does that not point to you your self being little more then......................simple and the true organ grinder's underling? I could go on but i think i have made my point.
Chorlton Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Jack apologised lets be the bigger men eh? Lets leave it here EVERYONE, OK? The forum has other areas for rants 'n' raves and a PM facility so this sort of "chat" doesn't have to bore everyone. C.
alterEGO Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I was very fair mate, just felt i should be able to put the installers view out there. I wanted to say alot worse.

No other forum I'm a member on closes topics because members know when to let it lie. In this topic Jack has apologised and few members he offended have had their say and IMO it should be left as is. arfur mo Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 hi jack, others jobs if done right always seem simple because they are trained so make it look like it that. example, lost count the times i watched spiller on a market stool cutting glass so easy as peazy - so i go and buy this shinning new wonder tool, get it home and end up with the equivalent of a smash car screen on the shed floor . i must have 10 + of the cutters, yet can i find one? no argument small alarms are easy enough to fit and the equipment is aimed for simple understanding by the novice, you i hope have the same amount of fingers and thumbs i do so what stops yopu? when it comes to placement for best coverage v false alarms, type of detection best suited, tracing faults 1st time every time when it go's wrong are some of what makes the difference's between an alarm fitter and an alarm engineer. if you and i quoted for a system you might do so dirt cheap and good on you, where as i, with 40 years experience to call on feel if its worth doing the work then its worth being paid properly for it. if you are about doing small alarms as a side line no issues, i started my own business the same way by installing systems for my companies clients who had grown children in their 1st houses or flats and so on. lots of the 'children' are now my regular clients and source of works - current job 16k spend, so it pays to do the job well with good kit from the off long term imo. which don't equate to the cheapest deal you can find, because if that kit fails, you may need it replaced quick perhaps 6 months away from now. the reason for the caution about mains is we don't know it even has a spur fitted or what condition the wiring is in, it may even be straight off the cooker socket in 4 core - and yes i have seen that on too many occasions, so we don't want anyone getting hurt. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
