scanman Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Hi there, I fitted a 9448+ panel and Armourflash bellbox about 10 years ago (with 3 PIRs, 2 doorswitches etc), all has been fine up to January this year the tamper light would come on and alarm sound (either with alarm set or not set). Could reset OK by putting in my code twice. Found the external bellbox tamper switch was duff so replaced bellbox with new Westech Armourflash box. All was well until April this year when same thing happened, measured the resisitance of the anti-tamper circuits at the 9448+ panel and it was 20 ohms which seemed fine but put in a link wire to bypass the anti-tamper circuits anyway. All well until tonight, same fault, the alarm was not set but tamper light came on and alarm sounded (just the internal one I think). Put in my code twice to reset but about half an hour later same fault. Put in my code twice and then entered Programming mode to stop it happening again. My questions are: 1) With the 9448+ panel, can a bad back up battery cause these problems? I did a search and with some panels this can be the case but not sure with the 9448+. The battery was probably last replaced 4 (maybe more) years ago. I am happy to replace the battery anyway but is there any way I can test it just with a multimeter? I would be happier to tie the problem down rather than worry about it going off again when I am away. 2) If no joy, to help with the troubleshooting how can I link out the bellbox tamper circuit to eliminate the bellbox, apart from desoldering the tamper switch and linking the cables together? The connections on it are: T tamper return A 0 ve D Bell +ve hold off B Bell trigger -ve S+ S- Thanks for your help!
djrock Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Hello, I am not alarm engineer but it does indicate it could be a duff backup battery. Yuasa recommend changing their batteries ever 5 years. Other makes I think it
hpotter Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Yes, faulty battery will give tamper if dragging voltage down. link 0v to tamper rtn to prove bellbox. Even if bell tamp the fault, still get a battery, saves agg in the long term. Oh and mind that 240v in there. Turn the panel mains off n sod the neighbours it should only take a couple of mins. (unless you're doing it at midnight)
scanman Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 Thanks for the replies, have got a new battery and have fitted it. Would you link the 0v to the tamper return at the bellbox or at the panel? thanks
