Hello

Could anyone tell me if the readings im getting are right?

Veritas Excel panel

Battery 2.8Ah

zone 1 magnetic contacts Tamper 0.02 Ohms

zone 2 PIR Tamper 0.6 Ohms

zone 3 PIR Tamper 0.6 Ohms

Battery Charging Voltage 13.6Vdc

Battery Charging Current 2.8mA

Battery Current Unset 140mA

Battery Current Alarm 5.5mA

Power Supply Unset 18.2Vac

Power Supply Alarm 17.5Vac

Also how do you test tamper if you are using double pole?

And what is the correct way to test resistance in a zone?

Hi Nikki,

Tamper resistances are probably correct.

Battery Charging Voltage 13.6Vdc --Sounds OK.

Battery Charging Current 2.8mA --ok if battery fully charged.

Battery Current Unset 140mA --sounds ok.

Battery Current Alarm 5.5mA -- Wrong would of expected 350mA +

Power Supply Unset 18.2Vac -- no need to measure AC voltage but looks about right.

Power Supply Alarm 17.5Vac -- no need to measure AC voltage

Also how do you test tamper if you are using double pole?

And what is the correct way to test resistance in a zone?

Zone and Tamper circuits are best checked by removing the cables from the control panel terminals and placing your meter probes across the zone/tamper wires. Ensure powered detectors are still powered up while testing.

Tamper resistances should be quite low, usually between 1 and 4 ohms dependant on the lenth of cable to the detector.

Surely the battery charging current should remain relativley low as he shows in alarm?

You would only get 350ma if the battery was under load?

Being a Service Engineer I had assumed he/she had disconnected the mains and was checking for the full alarm condition current draw at the battery, for which I would have expected to see a reading of 350mA+, I had assumed they had already disconnected the mains for the result achieved for the "Battery Current Unset" test which gave 140mA reading.

Why would you want to check the battery current draw in alarm condition with the mains still on.. ?

Global tamper should do. Zone resistances are more important.
