gerdalt Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 I have recently installed a new HKC SW812 alarm panel. It is a simple setup with just three PIRs and some magnetic contacts. If the alarm is triggered it sounds an internal sounder and an SABB. My background is in computers and electronics - alarm panels are new to me. I want now to add some electronics so that the panel will text me or call me when it alarms. The add-on available from HKC to do this is called a DM Text Plug-on card. The vendor website describes the card as doing the following: Plugs straight onto SW812 / SW1212 / SW16120 panels <<< I understand that - Reports up to 16 channels to central station <<< what does this mean??? - Sends SMS messages to up to 19 phones <<< I understand that - Connects to remote PC via SmartLink 7 <<< what does this mean? Is it an RS232 connection? - Supports Fast Format, Contact ID, SIA & Extended SIA protocols <<< what does this mean? - Simple programming through panel mennus <<< sales talk!! - Integral line monitor <<< what does this mean?? Any answers to the above questions would be very much appreciated. Thank you Ger

Thank you Ger Some of the functions listed only apply to systems installed as a "graded" system installed by a registered company here in the UK. Therefore some of the information you request will not be posted in a public forum area. The parts you understand make it sound as if this module will do what you need and possibly a lot of what you don't need as well! Gopher Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 gerdalt, luggsey was simply pointing out that the ins and outs of some of functions of that DM card are for use with an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) and thus can't be discussed on the public side of the forum (due to the rules we all have to stick to), etc just trying to keep in right was all he was trying to doing, it can be tricky you know, knowing what information you can freely give out. Sorted out now anyway.. The ones you weren't sure on, you won't use anyway as if there is a line fault how will you know as it can't signal out unless it comes with a 2nd pathway to signal out on i.e a GPRS / GSM module as well, which I've only seen available from "Trade only" suppliers. gerdalt Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 OK, OK, point taken. I understand. It's just that sometimes . . . . . . it has all been said before I stand corrected. Ger
