I was there a couple of months ago, CCTV kit looked about as geriatric as most of the people on the pier. same with the Fire Alarm very likely.

lucky no one was hurt. could have been different if the fire had started at the landward ( good word eh ? ) end.

so they could watch it burn?

still think a fire alarm and sprinklers for a wooden pier would have been a better investment, but yeah lets hope they do have images of who it is.... and its insured...and sprinklers wernt a requirement of said insurance.

ps lets hope the dvr is in a fire proof and waterproof enclosure that is tethered so it dont float away

From what I've read it would appear that the initial fire was in an area where deep fat fryers are located so sprinklers wouldn't have helped in this area (assuming that the fire was indeed fuelled by oil).

However, early detection beyond this would definately been good - hindsight is a great thing, isn't it??
