benmc Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 All I am trying to plan the installation of magnetic contacts on my windows and doors. I have read that many of the cheap magnetic contacts are not great and should be avoided. I can also understand that they are at times exposed to the elements. In light of this I have decided to fit Elmdene magnetic contacts that are rated to Grade III Environmental. I have one simple issues. The contacts that I am looking at are cabled ie They come with 1m of cable already attached. This gives me a problem - I don't what to have many junction boxes around the house. So what is the correct method of joining the cable. The house is being renovated so the cable will be sunk into the plaster and then plastered over? Solder and then heat shrink? Ben
james.wilson Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Solder and Heat shrink would be an acceptable method but i would advise caution. At some point one will fail, how will you replace it. You could consider slush contacts that are sealed and do the solder joint behind the contact, or the elmdene flush G2 contact with terminals.
