jacobly Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 we have a scantronic 4600 which we installed ourselves in 1993 - the guy we bought it from has since retired to the south of spain (lucky him). we have 5 internal detectors plus two door contacts which operate as entry/exit for full alarm via remotes (although only one entry point - garage door - is used). Replace batteries in detectors regularly as well as back up battery in control panel. has been running perfectly until recently. on exiting we set the alarm with the remote - sometimes it sounds normally awaiting door closure with a 'beep beep' on pressing the remote but at other times it gives the continuous sound as if the garage door is closed although the red light which shows the door contact has been opened has lit up. so we open and close the garage door a couple of times and it'll then work as normal. but then on entering later we get no sound at all (ie the expected continuous sounding until the remote switches the alarm off). Then on entering into the house the first sensor of course picks us up and the internal/outer alarm goes off. the control panel shows fault/alarm on the garage door. This of course means that the alarm is of course setting but not properly. the other day I happened to be standing outside having set the alarm and realised that in fact that the internal sounder that should have stopped on the door closing was still sounding and then set off an internal alarm. the other thing is that we have a chime on the door contact which sometimes sounds twice on opening the door and at others not at all. my husband was convinced that the battery for the garage door contact needed to be changed but this didn't make any difference.. I've also opened/closed the door contact which isn't regularly used to see if this sets off the sounder for the alarm to be turned off when the garage door doesn't but it doesn't do so - so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the door contact in the garage.. the strange thing is sometimes it works perfectly and at others not.. at night on part set we have no problems. does anyone have any thoughts please? thanks in advance.

I would say that you have a intermittly sticking contact on the garage door - replace it and then see if all works ok P THE BLACK KNIGHT "Any comments / opinions posted are my opinion only and do not represent those of my employer or Company."
