HoofHearted Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I hope this is the correct place to post this.... I fitted a Menvier SD2 dialler to my alarm last night. I set it up so that it will send a text message to my mobile if Input A is triggered. When the setup was complete i went into the test menu and got it to send a Text Message to my mobile. I tried this several times and got the same behaviour each time... Whenever it tries to send the test message, the first attempt always fails. The Message Centre answers, but no handshaking takes place. The Menvier then clears the call, redials and then the message is sent succesfully. Does anyone know why this is? Ian
james.wilson Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 broadband on the line? To many phones? Non BT line? securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
HoofHearted Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 Yes there is broadband on the line. An yes it is a Talk Talk line. I've got it connected so it disconnects the other telephones in the house. So the quantity of phones won't be an issue. It's strange how the first call always fails and the second call always succeeds.
james.wilson Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 got a bb filter? and isnt talk talk voip? securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
HoofHearted Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 I can't fit a filter to the box because the phone line goes in the A/B sockets and out of the A1/B1 sockets to the rest of the house. This is so it can disconnect the other phones when it needs the line. So if I filtered it, everything would get filtered the same way. But when the second call always succeeds, I don't understand why the first always fails. What is the significance of TalkTalk being VOIP? Could I have bought a different piece of kit to do this? Ian
james.wilson Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 no but there are issues with some old communiators on the new generation of lines. I belive that BT lag behind some other, ie talk talk re 21CN, which is a good thing lol But the reason your first call is failing is because of the bb, by the time the second call starts the bb has been truned off as you are disconnecting your router. You will need a filter for reliable operation of a dialler. Its up to you if you think 'it works 2nd time most of the time' is acceptable. We only support equipment on dediated BT lines, becasue fo problems like this. Not saying we dont use other lines as we do, but we always advise against it. I currently have a problem with a digi on a virgin line as its voip. Dont think we will be able to do anything other than advise a BT line. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.

My understanding is that it disconnects my other telephones before it makes the first call. I see a message on the display for a couple of seconds: 'Clearing Call' before it dials each time. But I do accept that it may take a few seconds for the exchange equipment to respond.
arfur mo Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 just to clarify, the ammount of phones 'allowed' is covered by the 'REN' value, this is printed on a label on the phone/s and should not exceed 4 in total on the line when all working ringers are added together. this only comes into effect if the handsets ringers are set to 'on', so you could have 10 handsets but only 3 actually ring, or you use an extnsion 'bell'. exceeding in the REN will weaken all the ringers to the point that intermittent or nothing rings on incomming calls. regs alan regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
Monty Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 we use the Excelsus Z Blocker filter for braudband and you can fit in side your panel and choose if you want to filter out going or not www.AllanMoncrieffAlarms.com
