Guest dmgsys Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 Hi guys Have any of you had any problems with a veritas 8 panel locking up. Customer entered by normal route but let the panel time out, and so go into alarm. They then entered their code but with no response. I was called and on my way when I received the call back saying panel now accepted the customer code (approx 30 mins after alarm activation). Called at site next day and thoroughly tested the panel. All voltages OK, set/unset, alarm activation etc but could not recreate fault. Im not a great believer in "its might be just one of those things" but the panel has been OK for the last week. I fitted the panel in Decemer 03 to an existing system fitted by noah and sons. Any ideas????????????
Guest dmgsys Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 Yeah I had a funny feeling it could be that like I said i dont believe in one hit wonders, I have had intermittent faulty panels in the past but nothing to do with code entry, unless its a dodgy keypad, but not on a 6 month old panel. I guess I just wanted someone to confirm my thoughts
CompostCORNER Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 Its most likely customer was putting in wrong code, it often happens and the customer will never admit it. I have experienced this phonomina several times and you can never prove it as the customer will always swear that they were putting in the right code. Its just not logical that a panel will not accept the code for half an hour then all of a sudden accepts it. Pete I had a call in Grimsby a few years ago. our firm had fitted a Norwich Union alarm during that same day. The alarm activated upon the customer entering the premises after going out that evening. The customer claimed it wouldn't stop when she put her code in so off I went to investigate. Upon arrival, the alarm was sounding internally only as it took me 40 minutes to drive there. I asked her to put the code in. Nothing. I asked for the code myself and entered it. Nothing. I knew the engineer who fitted it that day and thought about ringing him to see if he had any ideas. When I explained what had happened, he read out the code which was conveniently still written on his arm for this lady's alarm and it stopped straight away. The last 2 digits of the code she gave me and the code my fellow engineer gave were swapped around. She had earlier set it with the correct code and tried unsetting it after being out for an hour with the same code, last 2 digits reversed. Her fault of course but the call was given to her free. I reckon this happens a lot more than we realise. Luckily, the installing engineer and his written down code brought the customer error to light. Tony
